He was born Feb. 5, 1933 in Tarentum, the son of the late Joseph M. and Isabel (Shearer) Altemus.
Rev. Altemus was a graduate of Freeport Area Senior High School and Eastern Bible Institute, Green Lane.
He retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, District 2, Clearfield Office after 34 years of service in the design unit.
Rev. Altemus was an ordained minister with the Church of the Nazarene. He attended the Clearfield Alliance Church.
He was founder and a lifetime member of the Little Bucktail Hunting Camp.
Rev. Altemus was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the 25th Infantry Division during the Korean conflict.
Harold is survived by his six children, Joseph Altemus of Texas, H. Dean Altemus Jr. and his wife Marcia of Clearfield, Sandra Wigfield and her husband David of State College, Bruce Altemus (Julia) of Texas, Daniel Altemus and his wife Rhonda of Newport, and Maj. Robert Altemus of Texas; 15 grandchildren, Zackary, Zane (Heather), Bridget (Matthew), Justen (Lacy), Jon (Christina), David, Phillip (Chelsea), Bethany (Mychael), Ryan (Jennifer), Jeremy (Kirsten), Julie, Daniel, Courtney (Zackary), Kayla, and Robbie; 24 great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Isabel M. (Williams) Altemus whom he married Aug. 23, 1958 at the Gospel Tabernacle Church in Philipsburg and who passed away Nov. 30, 2014; a granddaughter, Brittany Altemus; two brothers, Robert Altemus in the Korean conflict and Donald Altemus; and two sisters, Marilyn Walters and Carol Stivason.
Funeral services will be held at the Clearfield Alliance Church on Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2021 at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Duane A. White and the Rev. Robert B. Goldenberg co-officiating. Interment will be in Bradford Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by members of the Clearfield Honor Guard.
Friends will be received at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home, Inc. of Clearfield on Monday, Sept. 27, 2021 from 4-8 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 1:30 p.m. until the hour of services.
