John was the son of Peter Sprinkle & Nancy Redfern.

John had a third name which shows up with several variations: Redfern, Redford, Randolph. Since his mother's maiden name was Redfern, that seems likely. However, to play it safe, we will use the initial "R."

JMR married Mary Jane "Jane" Barley on 11 Sep 1834 in Rockingham Co., VA.

Their children included: Francis Marion; Mary Frances (McClure); Sarah Catherine (Rudd); William Milton; Peter Jacob; John Randolph; Samuel Edward; Virginia Alice (Coffman); Ada Jane (Wilhelm); & Walter R.

JMR was a Captain in Burks Regiment, Virginia Local Defense during the Civil War. Later in life, he was referred to as "Colonel." Perhaps it was a title of respect.
