Memorial services for Mrs. Gladys Gibson Beery were held Sunday afternoon in the Hixson Funeral Chapel in Gower, with Rev. Gerald Cox and Rev. Jack Perry officiating. Burial was in Allen Cemetery at Gower. Casket bearers were Charles F Clouser, Sid B. Johnson, Leo Loutermilch, Fred Reynolds, C. W. Sargent, and 0. F. Ussary.
Gladys Gibson was born March 2, 1904, the daughter of James William and Lula Deakins Gibson, and was educated in the Buchanan County Schools and the Northwest State College in Maryville. She taught the Frazier School for seven years.
On November 5, 1927, she was married to C. Raymond Beery, who survives. Also surviving are her two daughters, Mrs. Janette Allgaier of Parkville and Mrs. Jean Ellington of Gladstone, Mo.; one son, Charles Ray Beery of the home; three grandchildren; Gary and Larry Ellington and Janet Lynn Allgaier, her mother Mrs. J. W. Gibson of Gower; eight brothers, Theodore of Plattsburg, Eugene of Hampton, Va., Robert and Richard of Falls City, Nebr.; John H. of BeItsville, MD; Lawrence of StewartsviIIe, and Norman and David of Gower, one sister, Mrs. Louanna Burton of Brunswick, Missouri.
Mrs. Beery was active in all community functions, and was a working member of the Gower Christian Church for many years. In 1958, she was recognized by the University of Missouri for her outstanding achievements in 4-H Leadership to which she had devoted many years.
She was injured severely in an automobile accident July 19, 1955, but with the love and tender care from her family and many friends she was able to continue her role as mother and to see her family grow to maturity. Her courage and strength of character were a source of encouragement to all with whom she came in contact. Her death occurred Friday night, January 7, 1966, in a St. Joseph hospital where she had been a patient just a short time.
