David R. “Cotton” Gibson, 95, of Gower, MO passed away, Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at his home.
He was born on December 9, 1920 to James William and Lula T. (Deakins) Gibson in Gower where he grew up and graduated from high school. David then attended the University of Missouri and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Science. David served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII and attained the rank of Captain. David was most proud of his family, of serving during WWII along with four of his brothers, and being one of six siblings graduating from MU.
On November 25, 1954 he was united in marriage to Geraldine Gray. After their marriage they lived near rural Gower where they farmed and raised their family.
He was a lifelong member of the Gower Christian Church. He was also a member of the Gower American Legion where he served as commander and received his 50 year pin. David was a member of the Gower Lions Club, 40 & 8, and Masonic Lodge. He taught GI Agricultural Classes and volunteered for the Gower Fire Department. David was a member of the East Buchanan School Board, where he served as President. He was a member of the Gower Cemetery Association and the Gower Oldtimers Baseball Hall of Fame.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Gladys Beery, brothers, Ted, Gene, Jay, John H., Bob, Dick, and Lawrence, and his grandson, Brian Swope.
David is survived by his wife, Geraldine, of the home; children, DiAnne (Steve) Swope, Kristy Moore, Jim (Donna) Gibson; grandchildren, Kelly Swope, Jayme (Eric) Hall, Brad Moore, Jeff (Kelsey) Gibson, and Kyle Moore; great-grandchildren, Jaxon and Annistyn Hall; sister, Louanna Burton; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 16th at the Gower Christian Church.
