Mrs. Melvin was born in Angelina County, Texas on May 1, 1879, and died Sunday night April 28, 1963 in a local hospital after a long illness. She lived in Forest most of her life, and was a member of the Methodist Church.
Survivors include four sons, Claude Melvin of Forest, Charlie Melvin of Houston, Texas, Don Melvin of Forest, and Gordon Melvin of Texas City, Texas; five daughters, Miss Ethel Melvin of Houston, Texas, Mrs. Hazel Sherman of Maydelle, Texas, Mrs. Edith Porterfield of Baytown, Texas, Mrs. Mildred Eaton of Odessa, Texas and Mrs. Maurine Beasley of Miami, Florida; two brothers, Spence Swan of Rusk, Texas and Jim Swan of Corrigan, Texas; 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
