Born in North Sydney, he was a son of the late John and Elizabeth (Robinson) Bona. He was employed as a stevedore with Canadian National Railways until his retirement. He was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, North Sydney. He is survived by his wife, the former Thelma White; seven daughters, Elizabeth Power, Sylvia Reynolds, Marina MacDonald, all of North Sydney; Jeanie Reid, Hamilton, Ont.; Brenda VanSnick, Dartmouth; Yvonne Allen, Georges Riv- er; Elaine MacLean, Barachois Harbour, Cape Breton County; four sons, Gerald, Reginald, both of North Sydney; James, Joseph, both of Barachois Harbour; three sisters, Helen Jardine, Josephine (Tootsie) Bradbury, Marie Yetman, all of North Sydney; four brothers, Arthur, Donald, George, Joseph, all of North Sydney; 25 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Stephen; daughter, Marlene; sister, Madeline; brother, William. Funeral will be 11 a.m. today in Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Rev. Peter Piva officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney. Donations may be made to any charity. Arrangements are under the direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, North Sydney.
