It is with heartfelt sadness, the family of George Bona, age 90, announce his peaceful passing on Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016 at Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in North Sydney on Sept. 15, 1925, George was the son of the late John and Elizabeth (Robinson) Bona. He was a resident of Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility since February 2012. George was employed as a stevedore with Marine Atlantic for many years until his retirement. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney. George loved to play the fiddle and pool and was an avid skater and card player. George was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Besides his parents, George was predeceased by his eldest son, David in Nov. 2015; his brothers, William, Victor, Donald, Arthur, Joseph and sisters, Madeleine MacDonald, Helen Jardine, Josephine Bradbury, Marie Yetman and Eva in infancy.
The family would like to thank the staff of Steelworkers Lane at Harbourstone, for the care and compassion given to George during his time there.
There will be no visitation by request. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral mass for George will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 22, 2016 at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
