Obit of Ruth Steward Kirby:
"Longtime Searcian is Dead:
Mrs. P. L. Kirby, prominent resident for more than a half century, passed away at a local hospital Saturday, September 9, (1978) at 5 p.m. after a long illness.
Daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Steward, an outstanding pioneer Searcy family, she was born in Bald Knob and was married to Lester Kirby who preceded her in death 23 years ago.
She studied music at Galloway Women's College. A charter member of the Christian Service of the First United Methodist Church, she served as its president. Mrs. Kirby was also a charter member of the Searcy Garden Club.
Survivors include one sister, Mrs. A. S. Faulk; one brother, W. R. Steward, Sr.; three nieces and two nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church conducted by Dr. Alvin Murray of Little Rock, assisted by Dr. Charles McDonald. Burial will be in White County Memorial Gardens."
