Sheriff of White County from 1910-1916
"White County News, Aug 19, 1909: "The announcement of L.J. Steward, of Bald Knob, as a candidate for sheriff appears in this issue of the News. Mr. Steward was born and raised in this county; he is a farmer by occupation, but a business man by profession. Mr. Steward will see the people of this county before the primary and explain to them his qualifications for this place. We publish in this issue the announcement of L.J. Steward of Bald Knob, as a candidate for the democratic nomination for the office of Sheriff. Mr. Steward has lived in White County all his life, and for several years has lived near Bald Knob, he has served his township at different times as Constable and has worked for several of the Sheriffs, of the county, always doing his duty in a quiet unassumming way, giving perfect satisfaction to every one, his honesty and integrity has never been questioned by any man, his ability to fill the office could best be told by the Sheriffs he has worked for. Mr. Steward submits his claims to the voters of White County upon his merits as an honest capable man."

When Lorenzo was elected sheriff in 1910, he and Annie moved to Searcy and rented a house on Center Street about one month and in December 1910, he bought a 5 room house and 74 acres at 614 N. Spring Street in Gray Township (later became part of Searcy, AR). The house originally had columns and the appearance of a colonial home, but Lorenzo removed the colums and added two bedrooms upstairs and a bath downstairs at the end of the center hall. Lorenzo and Annie were living right over the hill from his mother, Sarah Hobbs.
