Annie was the first child of Green B. and Eloise Woodward Steed. Before her birth, her father ordered a cradle and it arrived by steamboat. The cradle is still in the Steward family.

Special to the Gazette - Searcy, Feb 14 - Mrs. L. J. Steward, 67, died at her home here at 3 a.m. today. She is survived by her husband; two sons, Mr. Roy C. of Winnsboro, LA, and W. R. Steward of Searcy; three daughters, Mrs. P. D. Huff and Mrs. A. B. Faulk of Little Rock, and Mrs. P. L. Kirby of Searcy; a sister, Mrs. A. H. Pullium of Texarkana; a brother, P.G. Steed of Little Rock; a half brother, Wilbur Steed, and half sister, Mrs. Fred Durham, both of Bradford. Funeral services will be held at the First Methodist Church, of which she was a member, at 10 a.m. Saturday by the pastor, the Rev. A. G. Walton, assisted by the Rev. J. A. Roberts of Beebe. Burial will be in Shady Grove cemetery at Bald Knob.

Searcy - Mrs. L. J. Steward 67, died at 3 a.m. today at her home here. She was the wife of a former White County sheriff who served two terms in 1912-1916. A native of Bald Knob, Mrs. Steward moved to Searcy in 1911. Besides her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Mrs. P.D. Huff and Mrs. A. S. Faulk of Little Rock, and Mrs. P. L. Kirby of Searcy; two sons, Roy C. Steward of Winsboro, LA, and W. R. Steward of Searcy; one sister, Mrs. A. H. Pullium of Texarkana; a half sister, Mrs. Fred Durham of Bradford; one brother, P.G. Steed of Little Rock; a half brother, Wilbur Steed of Bradford, and several grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Methodist Church at Searcy, with Rev. A. G. Walton of Searcy officiating, assisted by Rev. J. A. Roberts of Beebe. Burial will be in Shady Grove cemetery at Bald Knob.

"Mrs. L.J. Steward is Called by Death. Mrs. L. J. Steward, 67 years of age, passed away at her home on North Spring Street this Friday morning at 3 o'clock after a two months illness. Mrs. Steward was born at Bald Knob, October 4, 1868. She was married on September 30, 1888, and to this union five children were born. She and Mr. Steward moved to Searcy in 1911. She was a consistent member of the First Methodist Church and was a devoted wife, mother and sister and will be greatly missed by her many friends throughout White County. Mrs. Steward is survived by her husband, three daughters, Mrs. P.D. Huff of Little Rock; Mrs. A.S. Faulk of Little Rock; and Mrs. P. L. Kirby of Searcy; two sons, Roy C. Steward of Winsboro, LA; and Reiser Steward of Searcy; a sister, Mrs. A. H. Pulliam of Texarkana; a half sister, Mrs. Fred Durham of Bradford; a brother, P.G. Steed of Little Rock, half brother Wilbur Steed of Bradford; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the First Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. A. G. Walton, assisted by Rev. J.A. Roberts of Beebe. "The last sad rites of Mrs. L. J. Steward were held this Saturday morning at 10 o'clock, at the First Methodist Church, a large number of sorrowing loved ones and friends being present. Mrs. T. A. Watkins, Mrs. John E. Miller, Dr. T. J. Ford, and S. W. Sanford sang, "Safe in the Arms of Jesus," and "How Beautiful Heaven Must Be," with Mrs. B. L. Oliver at the organ. Mrs. Miller sang, "When They Ring Those Golden Bells." Rev. A. G. Watson, pastor of the First Methodist Church here, and Rev. J. A. Roberts of Beebe, a life long friend of the family, eulogized the exemplary life of Mrs. Steward. A long cortege went to Bald Knob for burial services in Shady Grove Cemetery. The elaborate floral offering bespoke the love and high esteem in which Mrs. Steward was held. Out of town relatives who came for the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Faulk of Little Rock; Miss Bertha Faulk of Little Rock; Mr. and Mrs. P. D. Huff of Little Rock, and son P.D., Jr., and daughters Misses Martha and Lorraine, and Mrs. J. E. Atkins of Little Rock; R.
