Rhoda, dau. of Peter Robinson, Sr. and his 2nd wife Experience Lumbert, bapt. Aug. 26, 1711 at Norwich, Conn. The 1925 Robinson Genealogy claims Rhoda m. July 27, 1758 as his 3rd wife, Noah Carpenter of Coventry, Conn. In addition, that Rhoda d. at Norwich, Conn., but no date is supplied. On the other hand, Amos B. Carpenter in his "Carpenter Memorial," pub. in 1898, makes no reference to Noah Carpenter having m. a third wife named Rhoda Robinson. However, the latter work is known to contain major flaws.

Noah Carpenter, s. of Benjamin and Hannah (Strong) Carpenter, was b. Dec. 4, 1705 at Northampton, Mass. He m. 1) bef. April 1736 an unidentified Keziah and had two children. He m. 2) Sept. 1, 1744 at Coventry, Conn. the widow Elizabeth Curtis, and had at least six children of record by her, the last with a recorded birth date being son Benjamin in Feb. 1756. There is no record of a Noah Carpenter-Rhoda Robinson marriage at Coventry, Windham or any other surrounding town with published vital or church marriage records. There is no reference to Noah Carpenter with a wife Rhoda in the Coventry records, and there is no entry in the Norwich, Conn. vital records regarding the death of a Rhoda Carpenter.

Notwithstanding, the widow Abiah (Robinson) Andrus (q.v. Andrews), Rhoda's eldest surviving half-sister, made her will Jan. 13, 1772, in which she gave:

• I Give and Bequeath unto my four Sisters & Sisters Daughter (viz) Mary Johnson wife of John Johnson & Rhoda Carpenter wife of Noah Carpenter & Elisabeth Smith wife of Josiah Smith & Anna Fuller wife of Rhodophus Fuller and Abigail Robardson [sic Robinson, Abiah's niece by her deceased half-sister Abigail (Robinson) Palmer] wife of Peter Robardson Junr [i.e., Abiah's half-nephew] All my wareing Apparel to be equally divided among them five.

[A full copy of Abiah's probate record was retrieved by the memorialist from the Windham Probate District at Willimantic, Conn.]

In 1758 Rhoda was nearing her 47th birthday, and it is unlikely that she had children and none can be found of record.

In the Coventry 1st Church records is the memorandum death in Feb. 1779 of the "widow Carpenter." This entry is repeatedly stated in printed and electronic genealogies as that of Rhoda (Robinson) Carpenter. And, by extrapolation Noah Carpenter d. prior to that date. However, Coventry town records clearly identity this widow as Phebe, who d. Feb. 13, 1779, age 39, the "relict" of Joseph Carpenter, who d. at Coventry Jan. 28, 1776, age 40. All other Carpenter deaths in the Coventry records can be accounted for as other than Noah Carpenter and/or of his wives. A record of actually when and where Noah Carpenter and his wife Rhoda Robinson d. cannot be found by the memorialist.
