Benjamin Robinson, the fifth child of Peter Robinson, Sr. and second wife Experience Lumbert, b. Feb. 23, 1703/4 at Tisbury (Martha's Vineyard, Dukes County, Mass.). Both the Stafford, Conn. town and Stafford Church records say Benjamin died at Stafford Apr. 12, 1772. However, at what cemetery Benjamin is interred is currently unknown to the memorialist.

On Mar. 4, 1728/9 at Windham, Conn., Benjamin m. Jerusha Bingham, dau. of Capt. Samuel Bingham, Sr. and his first wife Faith Ripley. On Feb. 24, 1760, Benjamin and wife Jerusha were admitted members of the Stafford, Conn. Church, "from the 2nd Church at Lebanon." They had seven children; the first five b. of record at Windham, Conn. and the last two of record at Lebanon, Conn.

Benjamin d. testate having written his will on Mar. 19, 1772 at Stafford, Conn., witnessed by Stephen Moulton, Hope Lothrop and David Johnson, proved May 4, 1772. Only the will is extant (Stafford Probate District, 3:59):

• to well beloved wife Jerusha all household goods and farming utensils desiring her to pay five pounds worth of the household goods to daughter Jerusha and the use and improvement of one room in his dwelling house as long as she remained his widow;
• to son Elijah the south part of his farm that was purchased from Joseph and Benjamin Heath, all livestock and ordered to pay all of his father's debts and funeral charges;
• to son Benjamin Jr. all remainder of the lands having already given to son Eliphalet his share in his father's real estate;
• sons Elijah and Benjamin to provide all necessary necessities for the comfort of their mother while she remained their father's widow;
• son Benjamin to pay ten shillings each to his sisters Eunice White, Irene Blodgett and Lydia Blodgett and three pounds to his sister Jerusha, all within two years after his father's death;
• to daughter Jerusha all weaving looms, stays and tackling;
• to sons Elijah and Benjamin all of his wearing apparel to be equally divided between them;
• son Elijah appointed sole executor.

The children of Benjamin Robinson and Jerusha Bingham are:

• i. Eunice Robinson, b. Nov. 16, 1731; m. Hugh White at Stafford, Conn. Apr. 8, 1756; said to have relocated to Vershire, Orange County, VT. Seven known children of the family.

• ii. Irene Robinson, b. Nov. 1, 1733; m. Dec. 4, 1755 Capt. John Blodgett at Stafford, Conn.; relocated to Claremont, NH and were one of the progenitors of the large interrelated Alden, Ainsworth and Blodgett families of Claremont, NH. They died at Claremont, NH two days apart in April 1813. Twelve known children of the family.

• iii. Col. Elijah Robinson, b. Oct. 1, 1735; m. Jan. 22, 1761 Lydia Scripture at Stafford, Conn.; relocated by 1781 to Weathersfield, VT where they died in 1809 and 1822, respectively. Seven known children of the family.

• iv. Eliphalet Robinson, b. Dec. 5, 1739; m. Nov. 25, 1761 Mary Follett at Stafford, Conn. (Stafford Church and Town Recs.); relocated to Claremont, NH by 1790 where they both died in 1813 and 1816, respectively. The memorialist believes that Mary was likely the dau. of Robert Follett and Abigail Richardson, b. at Attleboro, Mass. May 27, 1741. Two known children of the family.

• v. Lydia Robinson, b. Feb. 5, 1741/2; m. Nov. 27, 1760 Daniel Blodgett at Stafford, Conn. (called Daniel Bloggett, Tertius [3rd], in the Stafford Church Rec.), brother of her sister Irene's husband. Daniel d. as a prisoner at New York City during the Rev. War. She may be the Lydia Blodgett who m. Samuel Woodberry at Stafford on Dec. 29, 1785 (Stafford Ch. rec.) and purportedly died in Chelsea, VT in 1811. In 1810 son Daniel and his family was the only one of her children who lived in Chelsea and no female of necessary age was enumerated in Daniel's 1810 Chelsea census. Her death by either the married name Blodgett or Woodberry does not appear in the Chelse town records. Nine children of the family.

• vi. Jerusha Robinson, b. Aug. 8, 1746; m. Feb. 4, 1779 as his 2nd wife Thomas Barrows of North Mansfield, Conn., where they both died in 1802 and 1830, respectively. Six children of the family.

(dau. of his father's sister Mary); both died at Brownington, VT in 1833 and 1837, respectively. Benjamin was a Rev. War soldier and granted a pension. His widow Ruth held a Rev. War widow's pension at her death. Eight children of the family.

Of historical significance, through his father Benjamin Robinson, Sr. was the great grandson of Rev. John Robinson (1576-1625) and Bridget White, late of Leiden, Holland. Rev. Robinson was the pastor at Leiden of the core Pilgrims who sailed in 1620 aboard the Mayflower and founded the Plymouth Colony.
