Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Somerville, TN

ROBBY SHOCKLEY, a resident of the Hickory Withe Community, retired Sheet Rock Contractor and husband of Charlene Shockley died at 8 P.M. Sunday, March 22, 2009 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis where he had been a patient for six weeks. He was 69 years of age and died following an extended illness. Funeral services for Mr. Shockley were conducted at 2 P.M. Thursday, March 26th at the Hickory Withe First Baptist Church with Rev. Eddie Little, Pastor of the church, officiating. Personal remarks were given by friend and fellow church member, John Benderman. Interment followed in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery at Hickory Withe. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-West Chapel of Oakland. Mr. Shockley was born June 13, 1939 in the Fulton Community of Itawamba County, Mississippi, the son of the late Fletcher Shockley and the late Bessie Bridges Shockley. He received his education in the Mississippi Public School System and was a graduate of the Newsite High School in Prentiss County, Mississippi. He was married June 30, 1962 to the former Charlene Martin of Chickasaw County, Mississippi, retired Baptist Memorial Hospital of Memphis Employee, who survives. Mr. Shockley served as a self-employed Sheetrock Hanger and Contractor for over forty years before his retirement five years ago. He and his family were former residents of Memphis before moving to Fayette County thirty-six years ago. He was a faithful member of the Hickory Withe First Baptist Church for the past thirty-six years and participated in numerous church activities as long as health permitted. He had a lifetime love for children and young people and shared his enthusiasm with his family, friends and the young people of his church. A longtime Elvis Presley fan, Mr. Shockley enjoyed music and movies during the Presley era and took pride in his neighborhood and small town community. A contented family man, he was known for his Christian values and his willingness to help others without receiving recognition. In addition to his wife, Mr. Shockley is survived by two daughters, Lisa Kee (Richard) of Whiteville and Nina Ludwick (John) of Indianapolis, Indiana; his son, Michael Shockley (Jennifer) of Bartlett; three sisters: Bess Hunkapiller of Booneville, MS and Emma Floyd and Dean Jackson, both of Blue Springs, MS; two brothers, James Shockley and Bobby Joe Shockley, both of Booneville, MS and three grandchildren: Rebekah Kee, Ashleigh Kee and Michalla Shockley. Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Buddy McBride, Bob Dacus, Pat Rowlett, Curtis Helms, Bill Leavitt and Max Kemp.
