Elizabeth "Betty" Conner Padgett, 83, died October 19. Funeral services were held at Columbia Presbyterian Church on October 22 at 11 a.m. Visitation was held from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the church.
Mrs. Padgett was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Julia(Kendel) Conner, her husband of 53 years, Ted Jerome Padgett, her brother, Raymond Kendel Conner, and two sisters, Julia Conner Fortenberry, and Claudia Conner Bowman.
Mrs. Padgett was born in Columbia. She attended the University of Mississippi and the University of Southern Mississippi. She held a Bachelor's degree and was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. Mrs Padgett had also done graduate work in education. She was a retired school tercher having taught in Meridian, Hattiesburg, and Columbia.
Very active in community affairs, Mrs. Padgett was a lifetime member of Columbia Junior Auxiliary, a member of the Cosmopolitan Club, the DAR, and the As You Like It Club. She also belonged to several bridge clubs.
Mrs. Padgett was a member of Columbia Presbyterian Church for 73 years. She had taught children's sundy school classes, and served as president and treasurer of the Women of the Church. She had also served on the board of Columbia Presbyterian Kindergarten.
Survivors include one daughter, Beth Padgett Sanford, son-in-law, Charles Sanford, four granddaughters, Julia Sanford Fortenberry, Elizabeth Sanford Smith, Anna Patrick Sanford, and Catherine Conner Sanford, and two great granddaughters, Lily Kendel Fortenberry and Gaby Jane Fortenberry.
