Margaret was born in Falls County, Texas, to the late Clem and Nellie Mae (Tadlock) Lanford. She attended school near Satin. On Feb. 16, 1935, she was united in marriage to Curtis C. Carpenter. Margaret worked for Wolf Manufacturing in West and Waco for many years. She also worked for Fab Knit; Clifton Manufacturing; General Tire and Rubber Company; and picked cotton when she was young. Margaret enjoyed fishing, playing bingo, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Everyone knew her as "Granny." Margaret was a member of First Baptist Church of Gholson, where she formerly worked in the nursery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, on Aug. 9, 1989; sons, Bobby Joe Carpenter, Donald Ray Carpenter, and Danny A. Carpenter; a daughter, Carolyn Attaway; brothers, Walter Lanford and J. C. Lanford; and an infant sister, Amy Keys.
Survivors include sons, Curtis Carpenter Jr. and wife, Rose Marie, of Gholson, and Cecil Carpenter Rogers and wife, Kathy, of Aquilla; daughter, Ann Baird and husband, Bennie, of Waco; 20 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; 24 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Odie Sue Nulph, of Robinson, Ellen Faye Carrol, of Waco, Ina Mae Davison, of Chalk Bluff, and Geraldine Walker and husband, Richard, of Golinda; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
