John married Jenette R. Case on September 6, 1849. Together they were blessed with Ellen, twins Edward Nilliston and Edgar Gilman, Alice, baby Mary- She tragically passed and Jenette passed within a short time after Mary-each was buried near the family gravesite. Son Edward gave them the blessing of a daughter in law, Sophie Williams Mosely, daughter of James E. Mosely and Flora L. nee Williams.
In 1894 a daughter(mother Carol) Ruth Mary Gilman was noted with John Gilman noted but not his child on her FAG memorial since he passed in 1874.
He then married to Mary F. Flatt from England. Together they relocated to Stoughton area of Wisconsin. The couple were parents of Mary F., Winfield, Walter F. Gilman-Wife Mary also had sister Maggie Flatt who was a teacher in the area living with them throughout life. Much joy in their lives when Mary gave birth to Winfield in 1862 and the family growing when Walter was born in 1871.
He left this earth 1874 with Mary solely raising her children/stepchildren/carrying for 6 family members noted in 1875. Wife Mary had boarders that supported the family-Hayden Adams known merchant drug sales lived with them up through 1900.
Wife and Walter moved around but relocated back in Stoughton where son Walter had several jobs in wagon companies-one being Stoughton Wag. Co. and later Moline Wgn. Co.
He was a father but never knew his grandchild Lois Gilman Frank who also blessed family with 2 known great grandchildren and 3 (great great grand)children-Mary, Grace, James Holzer.
Wife Mary joined him in 1922.
