Edward was a twin to Edgar born to Jenette nee Case and John F. Gilman.
He grew up in the Dane Co., WI. He had five siblings in order, Ellen born in 1853, twin brother Edgar, Alice, Mary;
His mother tragically passed shortly after sibling Mary passed in 1864.
His father remarried to Mary R. Flatt and his step brothers Winfield and Walter Gilman.
He and his brother Edgar were boarders at Langdon St., Madison,in Dane Co. WI.
Edwar married Sophia Mosely on January 20, 1881. The children of this union were James born 1881, Helen-1884, Flora M-1886, Laura-1891, as step sister Mary Ruth(her mother was Kathryn Gallagher)1894, Jenette- 1897; It is known that James married sometime between 1901-1905.
Edward worked as a bookstore clerk that his father in law managed. Brother Edgar worked as an insurance agent in the Dane Co. area.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Mary. Survivors included his step mother Mary Flatt Gilman, step aunt Maggie Flatt, his sisters and stepbrothers along with niece Lois Gilman(Ralph) Frank of New Jersey.
