For the past nine years he had resided at Friendship Manor East, Virginia Synod Lutheran Home, and at the homes of his daughters. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Frank Helvestine, Mildred and Harry Porterfield, all of Roanoke; two grandchildren, Dorothy Runion and Eric Helvestine; four great-granddaughters; and a sister, Emma M. Kite, Shenandoah. Funeral services will be conducted from St. Peters Lutheran Church in Shenandoah, Va. Arrangements are being handled by Kyger Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Peters Lutheran Church Building-Roof Fund.
