w/o Dr Guy Huskinson HOPKINS, d/o Maude WALLICK and Dr William Walter FLORA, 1st born of two daughters in Carthage, Jasper county, Missouri, removed to Colorado Springs, El Paso county, Colorado in 1904, married 1920, took care of me for awhile when my mother, her younger sister, died in 1928.

She had at least one 3rd g,grandfather, Colonel Heinrich STARLING, veteran of Revolutionary War.

While living on Howard avenue in Carthage, June 11, 1898, nine y/o cousin Carl R GRAY, Jr fell out of their Cherry tree, as reported in the Carthage Press, when his mother dropped him off for her trip to Monett to find a house to live in (first son Carl's repeated comment shared with many, was; "I moved 42 times in my first fifty years", a veteran of both WW I & II, a Maj-Gen in WW II, head of Veterans Administration following the war), ---- this when her mother was seven months pregnant with her second daughter, my mother, Frances Elizabeth.

Census: 1900, age 6 Carthage, Jasper county, Missouri with parents & sister in new home with current address 1324 south Main

In 1900 father, Dr FLORA, had their new home built on east side of south Main street between G A ROSE's built home and the new one of R B PEEBLES, who shared a tennis court in their backyards, his being third lot south of Paradise alley, said alley once extending west along south side of James LUKE's new home across street at now 1335. Little was it known then, that neighbor Luke's niece's (whom he brought from England and held her 1898 wedding in his new home), first born of 1899, Luke J BOGGESS, would in 1921 marry her sister, Frances Elizabeth, they becoming my parents in 1927.

Her aunt Pearle, was wed in Carthage, Jasper county, Missouri, when she was around eight y/o, 30 April 1902, listing Carthage as her home, but had in 1900 Federal census, lived in Marquette, Marquette county, Michigan working as a sales lady. After marriage she removed to Duluth, Saint Louis county, Minnesota from where she visited her sister, nieces and where she died in 1930.

Census: 1910, age 16, Colorado Springs, El Paso county, Colorado with parents & sister at 2129 north Nevada.

Census: 1920: age 26 Colorado Springs, Colorado with parents & sister at 2129 north Nevada till her wedding.

Her wedding in 1920 was attended by her paternal grandfather John A FLORA, by her God-Mother, Harriette A (Flora) GRAY with two younger, Russell & Howard of her three sons, and it was a gala affair.

The article announcing the wedding was put in the Carthage Press on Saturday, August 21, 1920 p.3 It read:
MISS HARRIET FLORA TO WED
Will Become Bride of Dr. Guy Hopkins,
of Grand Junction, Colorado

The following from a Colorado Springs paper will be of interest to many here, Dr. W. W. Flora and family, being former Carthage residents;
The engagement of Miss Harriet Flora, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. W. W. Flora, to Dr. Guy Huskinson Hopkins of Grand Junction, was announced at a tea given to a number of Miss Flora's friends. The wedding has been set for September 8. Miss Flora is well known in Colorado Springs, having lived here practically all her life. She graduated from Colorado College with the class of 1917 and was a member of the Hypatia Society.
Dr. Hopkins also was a student of Colorado College, graduating in 1915. He later graduated from the medical at Washington University. He is a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. Dr. Hopkins and his bride will make their home in St. Louis.

Besides they taking care of me in 1928 following her sister's, my mother's death, Dr Guy then removed my tonsils, I also visited in 1936, 1946, and about 1968 following her husbands death.

My brother Jack (1924-2001) and I had visited and stayed with her in the summer of 1936.

They annually drove up near Lake City, Colorado totally unaware of her grandfather's two brothers families, "V P" & Daniel R B FLORA, having lived there since 1875, year before statehood.
