Maude WALLICK, 1st of two known children, born 21 March 1870, at Peru, Miami county, Indiana to Captain William F M WALLICK (1840OH-1873IN) and Anna Elizabeth HAGEE (1840/43PA-1877IN), orphaned at age 7 (unknown why family members didn't raise her), raised in 1880 by family named BANKS in Perry township, Miami county, Indiania, next found twelve years later, Aug 1892, at Oswego, Kansas, living the past year in Chicago, noted as cousin to Alice KINGSBURY, 20 y/o deceased wife of Clarence FLORA, then 21 Aug 1892 married to his younger brother William W FLORA, with his father's permission, at Carthage, Missouri, then the hometown of Will's sister, Harriette GRAY.
Census: 1880, age 11 Peru, Miami county, Indiana orphaned, in Benjamin BANKS household.
Next found twelve years later in Oswego, Labette county, Kansas at friend & 1st cousin's funeral, thirteen days later married her husband's younger brother in Carthage, Jasper county, Missouri, requiring his father's consent:

~ ~ wedding took place thirteen days following Oswego funeral of Maude's friend and first cousin, Alice (Kingsbury) FLORA, first of three wives of Will's brother Clarence. Alice and her mother Mary were in 1880 living with aunt Elmira who attended both events, and is believed to be where Maude lived after leaving her foster home in Peru, Miami county, Indiana.
Its still unbelievable that one of many Peru Wallick or Hagee family members, didn't take in Maude and her sister when orphaned upon death of their mother in 1877.
First home after marriage was Oswego, Labette county, Kansas, where her husband's father & step-mother lived, died and are buried, shortly moving to Carthage, Jasper county, Missouri where her husband's sister Harriette and husband Carl Raymond GRAY (later vice-chairman of Union Pacific RR) were living from July 1890 to March 1896 and again in September 1898 to (?) 1900, where her two daughters were born before moving to Colorado Springs in 1904 for her health.
While living on Howard avenue, in Carthage, June 11, 1898, nine y/o nephew Carl R GRAY,Jr fell out of their Cherry tree, according to article in Carthage Evening Press found by Nancy BREWER of Carthage, when his mother dropped him off for her trip to Monett to find a house to live in (her first son Carl's repeated comment shared with many, was; "I moved 42 times in my first fifty years", a veteran of both WW I & II, a Maj-Gen in WW II, head of Veterans Administration following the war) awarded our nation's second highest military medal plus several others, ---- this when Maude was seven months pregnant with her second daughter, my mother, Frances Elizabeth.
Census: 1900, age 30 Carthage, Jasper county, Missouri with hubby & two daughters in new home with current address, 1324 south Main street, next south to the G A Rose house, later owned by George Brown Wood.
Its noted in 1900 Dr FLORA built their new home on east side of south Main street between G A ROSE's built home and the new one of R B PEEBLES, who shared a tennis court in their backyards, his being third lot south of Paradise alley, said alley once extending west along south side of James LUKE's new home across street at now 1335. Little was it known then, that neighbor Luke's niece's (whom he brought from England and held her 1898 wedding in his new home), first born of 1899, Luke J BOGGESS, would in 1921 marry Dr FLORA's second born, Frances Elizabeth, becoming my parents in 1927.
Maude's sister, Pearle, was also wed ten years later in Carthage, Jasper county, Missouri, 30 April 1902, listing (?) Carthage as her home, but had on 1900 Federal census been listed in Marquette, Marquette county, Michigan working as a sales lady. After marriage she removed to Duluth, Saint Louis county, Minnesota, having a son, and from where she visited her sister and location of her 1930 death.
According to two newspaper articles in the 1903, Carthage (Missouri) Evening Press of June 3 & 15, Maude was an invited guest of her husband's older sister (who visited her in 1901 along with her sister-in-law, Ethel Davis (Gray) KRAMER), Harriette GRAY at her home in Springfield, MO along with eleven other lady's for a week of entertainment, including a two day excursion to Arkansas' resort, Monte Ne, aboard Carl GRAY's private railroad car.

A letter received in Carthage from a Colorado tourist states that W. E. Hall and son, Tom, left Manitou last Thursday for Thunder Mountain, Idaho, to view their mine investments. Their wives are at 121 Hill Top, near Chautauqua amphitheater. Mrs. W. W. Flora is at 1415 Colorado avenue. At the Sunnyside hotel, kept by Capt. Rogers in Manitou, are Mesdames Greenwood, O. D. Royse, Margaret Lister and daughter, Miss Flo, Mrs. Wallace Matthews and sister, Mrs. Ed Jenkins of Joplin. Others from Carthage are expected there. Mrs. A. F. Wise and daughter, Miss May, are in Manitou.
Miss Mae Pauley now there, is to be married the middle of August and will come to Kansas City on a bridal tour, then live in a cottage in Colorado Springs. Milt McClure, now in Colorado Springs, points out to his tourist friends a mountain top of which he has a claim, and shows dirt which he declares has gold.
August 1903 brother-in-law Carl GRAY was in Carthage on business and had Dr W W FLORA aboard his private railroad car for dinner, Flora's family were in Colorado for the summer.
October 1903, Dr FLORA was teaching at his alma mater, Western Dental College (now University of Missouri Dental College), while his wife and their two daughters were to return from summering in Colorado then the family would return to Carthage. A few days later his sister Harriette and her hubby picked them up in Carl's private railroad car and traveled to Oswego, Kansas to visit their father, hubby's step-sister and other friends.

Grandmother Flora was invited in 1934 by brother-in-law Carl Raymond GRAY to ride on United States first streamline train's initial run, being truly amazed at how fast (to 111 mph), quiet and smooth riding it was. The train earlier in February, had been shown to President Roosevelt and I saw it at the 1934 Chicago World's Fair. This Union Pacific train was later named "City of Salina" with service between Salina, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri.
My brother Jack (1924-2001) and I visited her for the summer of 1936.

August 1903 brother-in-law Carl GRAY was in Carthage on business and had Dr W W FLORA aboard his private railroad car for dinner, Flora's family were in Colorado for the summer.
October 1903, Dr FLORA was teaching at his alma mater, Western Dental College (now University of Missouri Dental College), while his wife and their two daughters were to return from summering in Colorado then the family would return to Carthage. A few days later his sister Harriette and her hubby picked them up in Carl's private railroad car and traveled to Oswego, Kansas to visit their father, hubby's step-sister and other friends.

Her husband William died 1922, daughter Frances, my mother died 1928, other daughter Harriette, died 1973, her only sister Pearle, 2 years younger, died in 1930 at Duluth, Minnesota bearing a son William Albert JACOBS who died 1977 in California.

Grandmother Flora was invited in 1934 by brother-in-law Carl Raymond GRAY to ride on United States first streamline train's initial run, being truly amazed at how fast (to 111 mph), quiet and smooth riding it was. The train earlier in February, had been shown to President Roosevelt and I saw it at the 1934 Chicago World's Fair. This Union Pacific train was later named "City of Salina" with service between Salina, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri.
My brother Jack (1924-2001) and I visited her for the summer of 1936.

Later in life, Maude appears with middle initial "G", of which one party claims its "GOFF", which was maiden name of her maternal grandmother, who passed away 27 years before she was born, when her mother was but 3 y/o, HOWEVER, as yet I have not found any such documentation.
Maude WALLICK, 1st of two known children, born 21 March 1870, at Peru, Miami county, Indiana to Captain William F M WALLICK (1840OH-1873IN) and Anna Elizabeth HAGEE (1840/43PA-1877IN), orphaned at age 7 (unknown why family members didn't raise her), raised in 1880 by family named BANKS in Perry township, Miami county, Indiania, next found twelve years later, Aug 1892, at Oswego, Kansas, living the past year in Chicago, noted as cousin to Alice KINGSBURY, 20 y/o deceased wife of Clarence FLORA, then 21 Aug 1892 married to his younger brother William W FLORA, with his father's permission, at Carthage, Missouri, then the hometown of Will's sister, Harriette GRAY.
Census: 1880, age 11 Peru, Miami county, Indiana orphaned, in Benjamin BANKS household.
Next found twelve years later in Oswego, Labette county, Kansas at friend & 1st cousin's funeral, thirteen days later married her husband's younger brother in Carthage, Jasper county, Missouri, requiring his father's consent:

"W.W. Flora and Miss Maude Wallack (sic) were married in Carthage, Mo., last Sunday. Mr. Flora is associated with I.R. Fisher in the grocery business and is a young man of exemplary habits and good business qualifications. His bride has been in Chicago for the past year, but is well known in our city and is esteemed for her many good qualities. "Will" and "Maude" enter upon their wedding life under the most favorable auspices, and with the good will of their many friends."
~ ~ wedding took place thirteen days following Oswego funeral of Maude's friend and first cousin, Alice (Kingsbury) FLORA, first of three wives of Will's brother Clarence. Alice and her mother Mary were in 1880 living with aunt Elmira who attended both events, and is believed to be where Maude lived after leaving her foster home in Peru, Miami county, Indiana.
Its still unbelievable that one of many Peru Wallick or Hagee family members, didn't take in Maude and her sister when orphaned upon death of their mother in 1877.
First home after marriage was Oswego, Labette county, Kansas, where her husband's father & step-mother lived, died and are buried, shortly moving to Carthage, Jasper county, Missouri where her husband's sister Harriette and husband Carl Raymond GRAY (later vice-chairman of Union Pacific RR) were living from July 1890 to March 1896 and again in September 1898 to (?) 1900, where her two daughters were born before moving to Colorado Springs in 1904 for her health.
While living on Howard avenue, in Carthage, June 11, 1898, nine y/o nephew Carl R GRAY,Jr fell out of their Cherry tree, according to article in Carthage Evening Press found by Nancy BREWER of Carthage, when his mother dropped him off for her trip to Monett to find a house to live in (her first son Carl's repeated comment shared with many, was; "I moved 42 times in my first fifty years", a veteran of both WW I & II, a Maj-Gen in WW II, head of Veterans Administration following the war) awarded our nation's second highest military medal plus several others, ---- this when Maude was seven months pregnant with her second daughter, my mother, Frances Elizabeth.
Census: 1900, age 30 Carthage, Jasper county, Missouri with hubby & two daughters in new home with current address, 1324 south Main street, next south to the G A Rose house, later owned by George Brown Wood.
Its noted in 1900 Dr FLORA built their new home on east side of south Main street between G A ROSE's built home and the new one of R B PEEBLES, who shared a tennis court in their backyards, his being third lot south of Paradise alley, said alley once extending west along south side of James LUKE's new home across street at now 1335. Little was it known then, that neighbor Luke's niece's (whom he brought from England and held her 1898 wedding in his new home), first born of 1899, Luke J BOGGESS, would in 1921 marry Dr FLORA's second born, Frances Elizabeth, becoming my parents in 1927.
Maude's sister, Pearle, was also wed ten years later in Carthage, Jasper county, Missouri, 30 April 1902, listing (?) Carthage as her home, but had on 1900 Federal census been listed in Marquette, Marquette county, Michigan working as a sales lady. After marriage she removed to Duluth, Saint Louis county, Minnesota, having a son, and from where she visited her sister and location of her 1930 death.
According to two newspaper articles in the 1903, Carthage (Missouri) Evening Press of June 3 & 15, Maude was an invited guest of her husband's older sister (who visited her in 1901 along with her sister-in-law, Ethel Davis (Gray) KRAMER), Harriette GRAY at her home in Springfield, MO along with eleven other lady's for a week of entertainment, including a two day excursion to Arkansas' resort, Monte Ne, aboard Carl GRAY's private railroad car.

CARTHAGE COLONY OUT WEST.
A letter received in Carthage from a Colorado tourist states that W. E. Hall and son, Tom, left Manitou last Thursday for Thunder Mountain, Idaho, to view their mine investments. Their wives are at 121 Hill Top, near Chautauqua amphitheater. Mrs. W. W. Flora is at 1415 Colorado avenue. At the Sunnyside hotel, kept by Capt. Rogers in Manitou, are Mesdames Greenwood, O. D. Royse, Margaret Lister and daughter, Miss Flo, Mrs. Wallace Matthews and sister, Mrs. Ed Jenkins of Joplin. Others from Carthage are expected there. Mrs. A. F. Wise and daughter, Miss May, are in Manitou.
Miss Mae Pauley now there, is to be married the middle of August and will come to Kansas City on a bridal tour, then live in a cottage in Colorado Springs. Milt McClure, now in Colorado Springs, points out to his tourist friends a mountain top of which he has a claim, and shows dirt which he declares has gold.
