~ Frances had at least one 3rd g,grandfather, Colonel Heinrich STARLING, a veteran of Revolutionary War, at least one great,grandfather & two grandfathers in the Civil War for the north, husband served in World War I.
While her mother was living on Howard avenue in Carthage, June 11, 1898, seven months pregnant with her, her soon to be nine y/o cousin Carl R GRAY, Jr fell out of their Cherry tree as noted in the Carthage Press, when his mother dropped him off for her trip to Monett to find a house to live in (first son Carl's repeated comment shared with many, was; "I moved 42 times in my first fifty years", a veteran of both WW I & II, awarded 2nd highest military medal, a Maj-Gen in WW II, head of Veterans Administration following the war), .
Census: 1900, age 1 Carthage, Jasper county, Missouri with parents & sister in new home with current address 1346 south Main street.
In 1900 father, Dr FLORA, had their new home built on east side of south Main street between Paradise Alley and the new one of R B PEEBLES, who shared a tennis court in their backyards, his being first lot south of Paradise alley, said alley once extending west along south side of James LUKE's new home across street at now 1335. Little was it known then, that neighbor Luke's niece's (whom he brought from England and held her 1898 wedding in his new home), first born of 1899, Luke J BOGGESS, would in 1921 marry her, they becoming my parents in 1927.
Her Aunt Pearle, was wed in Carthage, Jasper county, Missouri, when Frances was around four y/o, 30 April 1902, listing (?) Carthage as her home, but had on 1900 Federal census, lived in Marquette, Marquette county, Michigan working as a sales lady. After marriage she removed to Duluth, Saint Louis county, Minnesota from where she visited her sister, nieces and where she died in 1930.

A wedding which will be of more than usual interest in Carthage and which comes as a surprise to their Carthage friends is that of Frances, daughter of Dr and Mrs W W Flora of Colorado Springs formerly of Carthage, to Mr Luke Boggess, son of Mr and Mrs S C Boggess, also formerly of this city but now making their home in Kansas City. The wedding took place last Sunday in Colorado Springs. Mr Boggess and bride will arrive here this afternoon to spend their honeymoon at Coolbrook, the Boggess summer home east of Carthage.
The following account of the wedding is from the Colorado Springs Telegraph:
"A lovely wedding was quietly solemnized at high noon yesterday at the home of Dr and Mrs W W Flora, when their daughter Frances was married to Luke J Boggess, son of Mr and Mrs Sam Boggess of Kansas City, Mo. The Rev Edward Hislop of the First Methodist Episcopal church read the service in the presence of only the immediate families and a few intimate friends.
"Mrs Boggess wore a wedding gown of ivory satin, her tulle veil serving as a train. She entered on the arm of her father. Attending her as bridesmaids were her sister, Mrs Guy H Hopkins, in a frock of yellow silk and hat to match, and Miss Frances Foster, in a gray burgundy frock with a hat of the same shade. Neither the bride nor her maids carried flowers. The best man was the bride's brother-in-law, Dr Guy H Hopkins. Preceding the ceremony Bernard Vessy sang "O Promise Me" and the bridal party entered to the music of Mendelson's wedding march, with Mrs George W Liljestrom at the piano. Mr and Mrs Boggess left yesterday afternoon for Carthage, Mo, where they will spend a few weeks at the Boggess' summer home.
"After September 10, they will be at home at Rockhill Manor in Kansas City, Mo. The bride is popular in Colorado Springs college and social circles. She is a graduate of the local High school in class of '17 and was a student at Colorado college, later attending the Agricultural college at Fort Collins. Her lovely soprano voice is well known in music circles here. During the last few years she has been studying under H Howard Brown and this summer was soloist at the First Methodist Episcopal church. Mr Boggess is a graduate of '21 of Dartmouth college. He has been spending the summer here with his parents."

Her father died six years before her demise, her paternal grandfather, John Andrew FLORA, died six years following, he and his father, Rev John FLORA, were both veterans of the Civil War and her mother, whose father was also a veteran of the Civil War, died twelve years following her 1928 death which occurred 14 hours after her mother-in-law, Kate's death. Her body, family, Tom Staley & friends transported from Kansas City in aunt Harriette's husband's private railroad car for a double funeral held 4 April 1928 in Carthage, Missouri.

Tragedy yesterday entered the family of Luke J Boggess, 7325 Pennsylvania avenue, for the second time in two days [within 14 hours].
Mrs Frances Flora Boggess, his wife passed away yesterday morning in the Trinity Lutheran hospital, just twenty-four [fourteen] hours after his mother, Mrs Kate McKnight(sic, Knight) Boggess in Carthage, Mo.
At the beside of Mrs Luke Boggess were her aunt and uncle,, Carl R Gray, president of Union Pacific system and Mrs Gray, Omaha; her mother, Mrs W W Flora, Colorado Springs, and her sister, Mrs Guy H Hopkins, Pueblo, Colo, all of whom had been called when she became ill several days ago [including her aunt Pearle Jacobs of Duluth, Minnesota].
Besides her husband, Mrs Luke Boggess is survived by two sons, Luke J jr. 3 years old, and William Samuel, 1 year old.
The funeral party will depart in Mr Gray's private railroad car for Carthage for a double funeral service tomorrow.
Mr Boggess is a nephew of the late James F Luke (sic), prominent Missouri capitalist and mine operator.

Mrs Kate Boggess, wife of S C Boggess, prominent Carthage business man, died at 8:45 o'clock last night at the Boggess apartments, 1205 South Main street, and Mrs Luke Boggess, daughter-in-law of Mr and Mrs S C Boggess, died about 11 o'clock this morning in Kansas City according to word received here about noon today.
The body of Mrs Luke Boggess will reach here tomorrow afternoon, accompanied by Mr Boggess, her mother Mrs W W Flora and the latter's daughter.
A joint service will be held at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning at the First Methodist Episcopal church. The Rev Frank H Ebright, pastor, will be in charge.
~Long in Ill Health~
Mrs S C Boggess had been in ill health for the last 10 years, suffering from heart trouble. However, her condition allowed her to be up for long periods of time. She became ill about two weeks ago and Saturday morning her condition was thought to be improved, but Saturday night she grew much worse.
Born February 10, 1876 at Calstock, Cornwall, England, she came to Carthage at the age of 17 years and made her home with her uncle the late James Luke. Her parents, Mr and Mrs S D Knight, came to this country about 20 years later remaining here a year, then returned to England, their former home, for a year before coming to Carthage to make their home permanently. Mrs Knight passed away July 25, 1923, in Carthage.
Besides her husband and father, she is survived by a daughter, Edith, who is a student this year at the University of Missouri, Columbia, and two sons, Luke Boggess, of Kansas City, and S C Boggess, Jr, at home, two brothers, Sidney Knight of Carthage, John Knight of Texas, and a sister Mrs George Hocking of St Dominick, Cornwall, England, two grandchildren in Kansas City also survive. Miss Boggess arrived about midnight last night.
Fred Knight, a brother of Mrs Boggess' was killed in an automobile accident near Webb City on August 25, 1922. He was general superintendent of the Independent Gravel company and was on an inspection tour of the company's properties with Ben Reynolds of Joplin, president of the company, at the time of the accident.

Mrs Luke Boggess had been ill several weeks suffering from scarlet fever and mastoiditis. She had undergone two operations within the last two weeks, the last one being performed last Saturday at the Trinity hospital, Kansas City, where she passed away. Her older son, Luke, jr. contracted the fever first, had recovered and was in Carthage for a short visit about a week ago.
She was formerly Miss Frances Flora of Carthage. Her father, the late Dr W W Flora was a prominent Carthage dentist. She was about 30 years of age and at the age of about 10 years moved with her parents to Colorado.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Luke, jr, and William Samuel, and her mother, Mrs W W Flora and a sister both of Denver, Colo (sic, Colo Sprs & Pueblo).

MRS BOGGESS, FORMER SPRINGS RESIDENT, DIES

Word was received here yesterday of the death of Mrs Luke Boggess, formerly of this city, and daughter of Mrs W W Flora, of 221 East St Vrain street, in Kansas City, Mo, following a mastoid operation. Mrs Flora left last Saturday for Kansas City to be at her daughter's bedside when she received word of her critical condition.
Mrs Boggess will be remembered as Miss Frances Flora. She attended the Colorado Springs schools, being graduated from high school and Colorado college. Since her marriage, which took place about six years ago, she has been living in Missouri. Funeral services will be held in Carthage, Mo. Wednesday morning.

She is a graduate of the local High school in class of '17 and was a student at Colorado college, later attending the Agricultural college at Fort Collins. Her lovely soprano voice is well known in music circles here. During the last few years she has been studying under H Howard Brown and this summer was soloist at the First Methodist Episcopal church. Mr Boggess is a graduate of '21 of Dartmouth college. He has been spending the summer here with his parents."

Her father died six years before her demise, her paternal grandfather, John Andrew FLORA, died six years following, he and his father, Rev John FLORA, were both veterans of the Civil War and her mother, whose father was also a veteran of the Civil War, died twelve years following her 1928 death which occurred 14 hours after her mother-in-law, Kate's death. Her body, family, Tom Staley & friends transported from Kansas City in aunt Harriette's husband's private railroad car for a double funeral held 4 April 1928 in Carthage, Missouri.

Tragedy yesterday entered the family of Luke J Boggess, 7325 Pennsylvania avenue, for the second time in two days [within 14 hours].
Mrs Frances Flora Boggess, his wife passed away yesterday morning in the Trinity Lutheran hospital, just twenty-four [fourteen] hours after his mother, Mrs Kate McKnight(sic, Knight) Boggess in Carthage, Mo.
At the beside of Mrs Luke Boggess were her aunt and uncle,, Carl R Gray, president of Union Pacific system and Mrs Gray, Omaha; her mother, Mrs W W Flora, Colorado Springs, and her sister, Mrs Guy H Hopkins, Pueblo, Colo, all of whom had been called when she became ill several days ago [including her aunt Pearle Jacobs of Duluth, Minnesota].
Besides her husband, Mrs Luke Boggess is survived by two sons, Luke J jr. 3 years old, and William Samuel, 1 year old.
The funeral party will depart in Mr Gray's private railroad car for Carthage for a double funeral service tomorrow.
Mr Boggess is a nephew of the late James F Luke (sic), prominent Missouri capitalist and mine operator.

Mrs Kate Boggess, wife of S C Boggess, prominent Carthage business man, died at 8:45 o'clock last night at the Boggess apartments, 1205 South Main street, and Mrs Luke Boggess, daughter-in-law of Mr and Mrs S C Boggess, died about 11 o'clock this morning in Kansas City according to word received here about noon today.
The body of Mrs Luke Boggess will reach here tomorrow afternoon, accompanied by Mr Boggess, her mother Mrs W W Flora and the latter's daughter.
A joint service will be held at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning at the First Methodist Episcopal church. The Rev Frank H Ebright, pastor, will be in charge.
~Long in Ill Health~
Mrs S C Boggess had been in ill health for the last 10 years, suffering from heart trouble. However, her condition allowed her to be up for long periods of time. She became ill about two weeks ago and Saturday morning her condition was thought to be improved, but Saturday night she grew much worse.
Born February 10, 1876 at Calstock, Cornwall, England, she came to Carthage at the age of 17 years and made her home with her uncle the late James Luke. Her parents, Mr and Mrs S D Knight, came to this country about 20 years later remaining here a year, then returned to England, their former home, for a year before coming to Carthage to make their home permanently. Mrs Knight passed away July 25, 1923, in Carthage.
Besides her husband and father, she is survived by a daughter, Edith, who is a student this year at the University of Missouri, Columbia, and two sons, Luke Boggess, of Kansas City, and S C Boggess, Jr, at home, two brothers, Sidney Knight of Carthage, John Knight of Texas, and a sister Mrs George Hocking of St Dominick, Cornwall, England, two grandchildren in Kansas City also survive. Miss Boggess arrived about midnight last night.
Fred Knight, a brother of Mrs Boggess' was killed in an automobile accident near Webb City on August 25, 1922. He was general superintendent of the Independent Gravel company and was on an inspection tour of the company's properties with Ben Reynolds of Joplin, president of the company, at the time of the accident.

Mrs Luke Boggess had been ill several weeks suffering from scarlet fever and mastoiditis. She had undergone two operations within the last two weeks, the last one being performed last Saturday at the Trinity hospital, Kansas City, where she passed away. Her older son, Luke, jr. contracted the fever first, had recovered and was in Carthage for a short visit about a week ago.
She was formerly Miss Frances Flora of Carthage. Her father, the late Dr W W Flora was a prominent Carthage dentist. She was about 30 years of age and at the age of about 10 years moved with her parents to Colorado.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Luke, jr, and William Samuel, and her mother, Mrs W W Flora and a sister both of Denver, Colo (sic, Colo Sprs & Pueblo).

MRS BOGGESS, FORMER SPRINGS RESIDENT, DIES

Word was received here yesterday of the death of Mrs Luke Boggess, formerly of this city, and daughter of Mrs W W Flora, of 221 East St Vrain street, in Kansas City, Mo, following a mastoid operation. Mrs Flora left last Saturday for Kansas City to be at her daughter's bedside when she received word of her critical condition.
Mrs Boggess will be remembered as Miss Frances Flora. She attended the Colorado Springs schools, being graduated from high school and Colorado college. Since her marriage, which took place about six years ago, she has been living in Missouri. Funeral services will be held in Carthage, Mo. Wednesday morning.

~ Frances had at least one 3rd g,grandfather, Colonel Heinrich STARLING, a veteran of Revolutionary War, at least one great,grandfather & two grandfathers in the Civil War for the north, husband served in World War I.
While her mother was living on Howard avenue in Carthage, June 11, 1898, seven months pregnant with her, her soon to be nine y/o cousin Carl R GRAY, Jr fell out of their Cherry tree as noted in the Carthage Press, when his mother dropped him off for her trip to Monett to find a house to live in (first son Carl's repeated comment shared with many, was; "I moved 42 times in my first fifty years", a veteran of both WW I & II, awarded 2nd highest military medal, a Maj-Gen in WW II, head of Veterans Administration following the war), .
Census: 1900, age 1 Carthage, Jasper county, Missouri with parents & sister in new home with current address 1346 south Main street.
In 1900 father, Dr FLORA, had their new home built on east side of south Main street between Paradise Alley and the new one of R B PEEBLES, who shared a tennis court in their backyards, his being first lot south of Paradise alley, said alley once extending west along south side of James LUKE's new home across street at now 1335. Little was it known then, that neighbor Luke's niece's (whom he brought from England and held her 1898 wedding in his new home), first born of 1899, Luke J BOGGESS, would in 1921 marry her, they becoming my parents in 1927.
Her Aunt Pearle, was wed in Carthage, Jasper county, Missouri, when Frances was around four y/o, 30 April 1902, listing (?) Carthage as her home, but had on 1900 Federal census, lived in Marquette, Marquette county, Michigan working as a sales lady. After marriage she removed to Duluth, Saint Louis county, Minnesota from where she visited her sister, nieces and where she died in 1930.

A wedding which will be of more than usual interest in Carthage and which comes as a surprise to their Carthage friends is that of Frances, daughter of Dr and Mrs W W Flora of Colorado Springs formerly of Carthage, to Mr Luke Boggess, son of Mr and Mrs S C Boggess, also formerly of this city but now making their home in Kansas City. The wedding took place last Sunday in Colorado Springs. Mr Boggess and bride will arrive here this afternoon to spend their honeymoon at Coolbrook, the Boggess summer home east of Carthage.
The following account of the wedding is from the Colorado Springs Telegraph:
"A lovely wedding was quietly solemnized at high noon yesterday at the home of Dr and Mrs W W Flora, when their daughter Frances was married to Luke J Boggess, son of Mr and Mrs Sam Boggess of Kansas City, Mo. The Rev Edward Hislop of the First Methodist Episcopal church read the service in the presence of only the immediate families and a few intimate friends.
"Mrs Boggess wore a wedding gown of ivory satin, her tulle veil serving as a train. She entered on the arm of her father. Attending her as bridesmaids were her sister, Mrs Guy H Hopkins, in a frock of yellow silk and hat to match, and Miss Frances Foster, in a gray burgundy frock with a hat of the same shade. Neither the bride nor her maids carried flowers. The best man was the bride's brother-in-law, Dr Guy H Hopkins. Preceding the ceremony Bernard Vessy sang "O Promise Me" and the bridal party entered to the music of Mendelson's wedding march, with Mrs George W Liljestrom at the piano. Mr and Mrs Boggess left yesterday afternoon for Carthage, Mo, where they will spend a few weeks at the Boggess' summer home.
"After September 10, they will be at home at Rockhill Manor in Kansas City, Mo. The bride is popular in Colorado Springs college and social circles.
