Tuesday, October 5, 1943

MRS. NELLIE BYERS

Mrs. Nellie Maude Overton Byers was born April 2, 1880, in Lucas county, Iowa, and departed this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Hester Moore, in Gresham, Oregon, on Sept. 24, 1943, at the age of 63 years, 5 months and 22 days.

She was married on March 13, 1901, to Nicholas C. Byers, who preceded her in death. To this union two children were born, Harold O. Byers, of Chariton, Iowa and Mrs. Hester E. Moore, of Gresham, Oregon.

She spent many years of her life in Marion county, but for the past 23 years she had lived in Chariton. She went to Oregon several months ago to visit her daughter and while there was taken seriously ill and her death resulted.

She was converted at an early age, later accepting the experience of holiness in the Methodist church. She later transferred her membership to the Church of the Nazarene at Chariton. She has lived a devoted Christian life through the 37 years she has been an invalid, unselfish, patient, always preferring others to herself. She will be greatly missed by her friends, neighbors and loved ones.

Surviving her are her son and daughter; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild; her aged mother, Mrs. Hester Overton, of Chariton; one brother, Merritt Overton, of Des Moines; one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Fletcher, of Chariton. Her father preceded her in death.

Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Mather, of the Nazarene church, were held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock at the Miley funeral home in Chariton and burial was in the Oakdale cemetery.
