OBITUARY

THE KNOXVILLE JOURNAL
Knoxville, Iowa

CHARITON - Charles Henry Overton, son of Alfred and Elizabeth Overton, was born in Marion county, Iowa, on January 1, 1859, and departed this life at his home in Chariton after a brief illness on November 9, 1924, aged 65 years, 10 months and 9 days.

He was married to Hester F. Bingaman on December 30, 1878. To this union one son and two daughters were born, who were all present at his death.

He leaves to mourn their loss, a mother, one sister, Mrs. James Adams, of Twin Falls, Idaho; two half-sisters, Mrs. Alex Agan and Mrs. John Jordan; one half-brother, Mr. Frank Brewer; his wife, one son, Merrill Overton; two daughters, Mrs. Nick Byers and Mrs. Arthur Fletcher; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.

He was converted about 30 years ago and later received the blessings of holiness. He was a member of the M. E. church until five years ago when he changed his membership to the Nazarene church.

He was a kind Christian father and neighbor. He was very patient and always regarded others rather than himself. He will be greatly missed by his loved ones and many friends. The day before his death he sang and talked of religious things.

A short service was held at the home and he was then taken to Oakdale, his home community, where services were held by Craig Wethers, the Nazarene pastor and Robert Bingaman. He was interred in the Oakdale cemetery, waiting the coming resurrection day.
