Eliza was the youngest child of Levi, a traveling minister, and his wife Lydia, the daughter of a Revolutionary War soldier. The family lived in Ohio and Wisconsin. She married Francis Eldred Smith on 04 Oct 1858 in Poynette, Columbia, Wisconsin. They were the parents of Lewis, Jessie, William, Marian, John, Frank, Frederick, and Ann. They lived in Wisconsin, Iowa and Nebraska. After her husband died, she moved to Michigan and lived with her son, Frank Jr.
