HENRY PROCTOR BINGAMAN
Henry Proctor Bingaman, son of Henry and Rachel Bingaman, was born in Monroe county, Iowa, Jan. 11, 1861, and departed this life August 27, 1942 at the Yocom hospital in Chariton, Iowa, at the age of 83 years, 7 months and 16 days.
Mr. Bingaman came from Godly parentage, whose influence he always carried with him. He was converted at an early age and united with the Oakdale Methodist church.
The greater part of his life was spent in Monroe and Lucas counties. He was united in marriage to Sarah Isabel Roberts on Sept. 12, 1880, to which union 11 children were born. Their wedded life totaled nearly 62 years marked by harmony and tender devotion. For the past 26 years they have resided at Williamson.
For many years Mr. Bingaman has been in declining health but only within the last few months did his condition become acute. His suffering at times was intense but he bore it cheerfully, always acknowledging God's ways as best. His faith in Christ was unwavering to the end.
On Monday, Aug. 24, he was removed to the Yocom hospital at Chariton where he failed to respond to all that medical care or loving hands could do. On Thursday evening, Aug. 27, at 6 o'clock, he passed peacefully from this life.
Surviving him are his wife, Sarah of Williamson; four sons, Ben H., of Des Moines; Forest, of Williamson; Charley, of Ullin, Ill.; and Hazen, of East St. Louis; four daughters, Elizabeth, Naomi and Marie, of Davenport; and Rhoda, of Des Moines. Three other children preceded him in death, Cora Ann, Rachel Frances, and an infant son, Owen.
Two brothers also remain, John Bingaman, of Dallas; and Louis Bingaman, of Columbia; and a sister, Mrs. Verdie Overton, of Chariton; also 23 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and other relatives and many, many friends.
Funeral services were held at the Oakdale church Saturday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by Rev. Irving Mitchell, and burial was in the Oakdale cemetery.
