CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Loraine Halter, 98, of Chaffee died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at Chaffee Nursing Center.
She was born Oct. 17, 1911, at Chaffee, daughter of Sylvester and Anna Elizabeth Owens Matthews. She and Leo M. Halter were married Nov. 16, 1929. He died Dec. 1, 1973.

Loraine worked for Wards Baby Shoe Factory and retired as a sewing machine operator from Buckstein Manufacturing Co. in Chaffee. She was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Daughters of St. Ambrose, Ladies Auxiliary of Chaffee VFW Post 3127 and the Ladies Auxiliary of Locomotive Engineers.

Survivors include a son, Michael L. Halter of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Patsy (Fred) Anderson of Belgrade, Mo., Peggy (Bill) Sullivan of Cape Girardeau; four sisters, Christine Unnerstall of Chubbuck, Idaho, Virginia Phillips of Morley, Mo., Edith Lansmon of Cape Girardeau, Gloria Laub of Chaffee; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, five sisters and a great-grandchild.

Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee. The rosary will be recited at 7.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church. The Rev. Ralph Duffner will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Vyron Yount. Burial will be in St. Ambrose Catholic Cemetery.
