My brother Jack was born in Omaha, Douglas county, Nebraska, has at least two 3rd g,grandfathers Veterans of Revolutionary War, one 2nd great, plus two g,grandfathers Veterans of the Civil war, father a veteran of WW I, and himself a veteran of all fours years of WW II, with his Boggess line traced to his 7th g,grandparents, 1 April 1644 Norfolk, Virginia county records, surname documented with over eighty different spellings. His great aunt, Harriette Amanda (Flora) Gray, was no doubt present at his birth as well as his mother's death four years later, who sent presents at most all holidays plus remembering him in her 1956 will.

He next lived in Kansas City, Jackson county, Missouri(ah) at 7235 south Pennsylvania avenue, in the Waldo area, till mother's 2 April 1928 death, then raised at Carthage, Jasper county, Missouri(ah) next four years at 1217 south Main street by twenty-two y/o aunt Edith Boggess & a Nanny till father re-married April 1932 to widow Muriel (Haight) Busboom, then at 1218 south Maples street from where he joined the U S Naval Reserves in summer of 1941.

Following his third year of public high school, Jack had an overwhelming desire to attend the United States Naval Academy. To that end, in summer of 1941, while on a trip to father's 20th reunion at Dartmouth College, family stopped in Washington D C, when visiting with Senator Harry Truman dad found he had traded his Naval Academy appointments, suggesting Jack take the naval competitive examination to gain entrance. To that end, he enlisted in the navy and enrolled at Randall's prep school in Washington, D C (as later, did Carthage friend, George M Flanigan, valedictorian Carthage High School 1942, but failing to gain entrance into USNA), successfully passing exams, graduating 6 June 1945 in the war accelerated three year Class of 1946, with president Harry Truman personally signing his diploma, while other midshipmen, such as ex-president Jimmy Carter, completed the four year course for Class 1946. As noted in obituary, Jack served until 1954 (thirteen years), aboard five different naval vessels. Joined with Westinghouse Corporation (thirty-two years), transferring as Foreign Sales Manager to Puerto Rico office, then to China until retirement, upon return from China to Portland, Multnomah county, Oregon in 1986.

Upon graduation of third daughter Jet's son, Luke, whose surname was changed to Boggess, then while visiting second daughter Joy Delgado and her family in the Florida Keys, they got a first hand experience of a Hurricane. Later his son-in-law, MST1 Julio C Delgado, USCG (ret.) provided his "Shadow Box", a naval tradition which will be maintained by grandson Daniel Delgado, a U S Coast Guard Academy graduate.

NOTE: Many think Jack should have "junior" following his name, however his father, Luke J Boggess enjoyed only an initial as a middle name.
