Ernest was the son of Thomas Osborn Bell and Josephine Walston Bell. His parents are buried in Bell Cemetery. He married Anna Jones on 9 January 1924. Anna died 27 April of the same year and is buried in Bell Cemetery. On 6 December 1924, he married Maudie Robinson in Anderson County. They were the parents of two daughters, Ernestine Bell Owens and Carolyn Sue "Carol" Bell Fletcher. Earnest and Maudie share a stone. Ernest farmed his land and for many years owned and operated a service station at the corner of Perry and Crawford Streets. He died at is home on the Alderbranch Road in Anderson County south of Palestine. He was survived by his wife; two daughters; two brothers, Lymon Bell and Douglas Bell, both of Palestine; three sisters, Lonie Bell Miller of Nacogdoches, Norma Bell Moore of Oakwood and Pauline Inez Bell Rawls of Fort Worth; and four grandchildren. His obituary appeared in Palestine Herald-Press, Friday, 2 April 1965.
