Charles W. Stewart was born in Blackford, Ohio, Oct. 27, 1841. While a boy he moved with his parents to Grant county, Ill, On January 25, 1866, he was married to Samanthia Jane Wright. To this union seven children were born, four boys and three girls. Two of the girls preceeded their father into the lite beyond. All of the others, with the exception of John Alfred, of Peking, Ill., were present.
Mr. Stewart served his country in the Civil war. He enlisted first in Company F, 153rd Regiment, of Indiana Infantry for a period of six months. He re-enlisted July 22, 1863 in Company K, 188th Indiana Volunteers. He received his honorable discharge February 6th, 1865.
Mr. Stewart moved with his family to Kansas about 1884, settling at Onaga, where, with the exception of a few years, he has made his home until his death. After work well done, he obeyed the summons of death and reported to the Great Commander, Nov. 12, 1924, at the age of 83 years and 16 days.
