Samantha J. Wright was born at Washington, Payne county, Ohio, July 17, 1844, and departed this life January 3, 1937, at Coyle, Okla., aged 92 years, 5 months and 16 days.
She was united in marriage to Charles W. Stewart, January 25, 1866, at Somerset, Indiana. To this union were born seven children, 3 girls and 4 boys. Two girls, Cora Alice and Nettie May, died in infancy; one son, Charles E. Stewart, passed away six years ago. She moved with her husband to Kansas sixty years ago. Mr. Stewart passed away November 12, 1925. Since that time she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Cordelia Mann, at Clay Center, until about a year ago, when they moved to Coyle, Oklahoma.
There are left to mourn her departure, her daughter, Mrs. Cordelia Mann, of Coyle; three sons, William F., of Neodasha, Kans., John A., of Delavan, Ill., and George H., of Onaga; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. C. E. Stewart, of Arkansas City, Kans., and two half sisters; five grand children, five great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren, besides other relatives and a host of friends.
She was converted in early life, uniting with the Baptist church at Onaga, Kansas, and remained a faithful and devoted Christian all through the remaining years of her life and was ready when the summons came to meet her Savior. She was quite feeble for some time and had been bedfast since a week before Thanksgiving.
The funeral service was conducted by Dr. Thomas C. Hinkle at the Tessendorf Chapel. Burial was at the Havensville cemetery.
