She was born June 8, 1907 in Utica a daughter of Carl and Sarah Birch Tritten. She graduated from Utica Free Academy and worked at the former Griffiss Air Base where she was in charge of the Beneficial Suggestion Program. She was honored with many awards for her work. Bertha was married to Leo R. Barry, former Fire Chief of Utica, who predeceased her in 1983.
She was a longtime member of Calvary Episcopal Church and a current member of All Saints Episcopal Church. Bertha was active in community activities, including Women of Rotary and the Central New York Heart Club, holding offices in many of the organizations to which she belonged. Her main interest in life was her children and their spouses, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bertha is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Richard C. Bremer of Utica, a son and daughter-in-law, William J. and Mary Lou Barry of Whitesboro, a daughter-in-law, Patricia Barry of Utica, 14 grandchildren, Kathleen Olsen, Colleen Higgs, John Barry, Daniel Barry, Maureen Maznio, Eileen Barry, Michael Barry, Elizabeth Boehlert, Richard Bremer Jr., David Bremer, James Bremer, William Barry Jr., Kevin Barry and Donna Wiggins, their spouses and 31 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers, John and Charles, her son, Leo and two great-grandchildren, Laura Barry and Katharine Bremer.
The funeral will be Sunday at 7 PM at the Friedel, Williams, Coriale & Edmunds Funeral Home, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday from 4-7 prior to the service. In lieu of flowers friends may consider the Heritage Heathcare Center Foundation or the Central NY Heart Club in her memory.
