He was born in Utica, the son of Leo R. and Bertha Tritten Barry, attended Utica Schools and was a graduate of U.F.A. (Utica Free Academy). Mr. Barry also attended University of Rochester and Utica College and was a graduate of the SUNY College of Ophthalmic Dispensing, New York City. On December 2, 1950, in Camden, NY, he was married to Patricia Hannon. Mr. Barry was the former owner of Barry Optical. Inc. of Utica, and was currently the sales manager for Rich Plan of Utica. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Utica. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict * and had also been a member of the Navy N.R.O.T.C. while in college. He was a member and former chief of Engine 11, a past President and present Vice-President of Wishing Well Hunting Club, the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, the New Hartford American Legion Post #1376 and the Cedar Lake Golf Club. Leo was also a well-known , active downhill skier.
Leo is survived by his wife, Patricia; his mother, Mrs. Bertha Barry, of Utica; four daughters, Kathleen Olsen, Silver Springs, MD, Colleen Higgs, of Santa Maria, CA, Maureen Maznio, of Glenwood Springs, CO, and Eileen Barry of Vail, CO; three sons, John, of Vail, CO, Daniel of Vail, CO, and Michael of Vail, CO; a brother William Barry, of Whitesboro; a sister, Marilyn Bremer, of Utica; five grandchildren, Chris, Carolyn, Ashley, Andrea, and Daniel.
The funeral will be Saturday morning at 8:30at the Heinz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., and 9:00 at our Lady of Lourdes Church. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Friday 2-4 and 7-9.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Leo's memory may be made to the Leo C. Barry Scholarship fund, care of Mrs. Richard Bremer, 2644 Edgewood Rd., Utica, NY 13501.
