Bessie was the daughter of Charles Wyatt Tyree and Annie Belle Hastings, and the wife of Reginald Aaron "Reggie" Henry. She was the proud mama of four children: Elizabeth ("Libby"), Melvin, Annie Marie, and Marjorie ("Margie"). Melvin predeceased Bessie in 1948 when he was only 19.

Bessie was an excellent cook, she cherished her children and grandchildren, and was a loving friend to many.
