Rites Held Sunday for Aged Matron
Sunday afternoon at 3:30, a large number of relatives and friends gathered in the Macedonia Methodist Church and paid final loving tribute to Mrs. Martha Jan Richardson, one of the community's oldest citizens. The rites were conducted by the Rev. Ira Bright, pastor of Arbor Grove Baptist Church. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery. Norman Funeral Home of Houston was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Johnny Refrow of Canton, Thurman Davis and William Gambrell of Houston, John Millender, J E Cridddle and Cecil Cox.
Mrs. Richardson died at 1:10 Sunday morning at Okolona Community Hospital where she had been a patient since Wednesday night when she became critically ill. She had not been well for the past two weeks.
Mrs. Richardson celebrated the 90th anniversary of her birth on April 22 with a family dinner in the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. James Criddle.
A native of Clay County, she moved to Fayette, Alabama following her marriage to John L Richardson and they lived there for several years before coming to Chickasaw County near Houston. Mr. Richardson died about 16 years ago. For the past nine years she had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. George Cox, and Mr. Cox.
In addition to her daughter here she leaves two sons, Edgar R Richardson of Columbus, and Sam Richardson of Canton; a brother, J F Ashcraft of Columbus and a sister, Mrs. Millie Guin of Columbus; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
