My grandmother was a tiny little woman with a personality the size of Man Mountain Dean! She stood her ground and meant what she said.

Near her death, she stood about 4'8" and weighed about 86 pounds. She was very stearn and believed children should behave and do what they were told. I remember her hands, more than anything else, as I remember them seeming to have done so much work in their life...and, her smile! She had a GREAT smile! Most of our family called her Ma or Grandma Pharr, while some called her Lil' Maw.

I've found, while searching for my ancestry, that her christened name was "Nevada", which I never knew...and, I think that was intentional, on her part. I asked my Mother (Nevie's daughter), recently, why I never was made aware of the fact, and she said it was because my grandmother hated the name "Nevada". She went by Nevie, and THAT was THAT! (Unfortunately, no one knew how to spell it - or didn't bother to ask how to spell it - and many documents are mis-spelled...making it difficult to find much information on her.
