Andrew was the youngest son of Conrad and Marie Sophie (Friedrichsen) Nielsen, born 1873 in Hollmühle, Schleswig-Flensburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Prussia. The burial location for his parents is not known, but his grandparents, Hans Adolph and Anna Margaretha (Henningsen) Nielsen are buried in Saint Katherine's Lutheran Cemetery in Gelting, Germany. Andrew immigrated to the U.S. from Germany in 1889 and settled in Douglas County, Nebraska.

His brothers Adolph and John are buried in Springfield Cemetery, Sarpy County, Nebraska. sister Christina is buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Omaha. His brother Nicolaus is buried in Evergreen Memorial Park in Omaha. His half-sister Fredericke (Petersen) Harder is buried at German Cemetery, Washington Co, Nebraska.

Andrew and Mary farmed for a number of years in Sarpy County, Nebraska, but moved to a farm in Polk County, Minnesota near Crookston in 1908. Andrew and Mary had ten children; six of whom were born in Nebraska prior to their move to northwest Minnesota.

1. Dorathia (Dorothy) was born 1898 in Nebraska and married Paul Salentiny in 1925. Paul died 1962 and Dorothy died 1967; both are buried in Saint Josephs Cemetery, Red Lake Falls, Red Lake County, MN.

2. Elsie was born 1899 in Nebraska and married Christ Wimpfheimer in 1921 in Crookston, MN. Elsie and Christ divorced and Elsie then married Julius Herbold in 1949. Elsie died 1984 and Julius died 1989; both are buried in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo, Cass County, ND.

3. Sophia Edna was born 1901 in Nebraska and married Gregor Useldinger in 1925 in Euclid, MN. Sophia and Gregor divorced and Sophia then married Oscer Nelsen in 1960.

4. Clarence Wilbur was born 1903 and married Ethel Slager in 1927. Clarence died 1987 and Ethel died 2000; both are buried in Oakdale Cemetery.

5. Anna Louise was born 1904 in Nebraska and married Thomas Owens in 1925. She died 1976 and Thomas died 1989; both are buried in Oakdale Cemetery.

6. Marie was born 1906 in Nebraska and married Rudolph Erdmann in 1927. Rudolph died 1968 and Marie died 1973; both are buried in Oakdale Cemetery.

7. Lena was born 1908 in Minnesota and married Walter Schultz in 1926. She died 1980 and Walter died 1989 in Polk County, MN; but their burial sites are not yet identified.

8. Andrew Frederick was born 1910 in Minnesota and married Inez Lenora Schultz in 1941. Both died 1992 and are buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, Red Lake Falls, Red Lake County, MN.

9. Emma Dorothia was born 1919 in Minnesota and married Paul Wayne Magsam in 1944 in Crookston, MN. She died 1993 and Paul died 1995; both are buried in Oakdale Cemetery.

10. J. Adolph was born in January 1921 in Minnesota and died the following August. I suspect he was buried in Oakdale Cemetery.
