Evelyn May Hugon Brown beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend took the hand of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, September 15, 2009. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at their home, Plumcover Ranch in the Griffin Community.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday at Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville. Services are scheduled for 10:00 am Friday in the Autry Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside will follow at the Griffin Cemetery.

Mrs. Brown was born in Athens, Texas to Dolph Lee and Jessie Hugon on June 2, 1921. She attended Frankston Schools, graduated from Texas Women's University, Denton, Texas, and continued graduate studies at the University of Texas before marrying Edwin Brown, the love of her life and husband of 60 years.

Evelyn was known as a lovely, elegant, and talented lady, whose life was epitomized by her great faith and trust in Christ Jesus and her enduring love for her family. Her grandchildren were the joy of her life.

She was a Sunday School Teacher at First Baptist Church of Jacksonville and belonged to the Mary Bible Club. Mrs. Brown was a member of Hillcreek Baptist Church, Whitehouse, Texas.

She was a teacher at East Side Elementary School, Jacksonville, owner of Troup Insurance Agency, and more recently, used her artistic talent in making beautiful silk crazy quilt creations which were enjoyed by many collectors. Her talents were only eclipsed by a humble spirit that always gave credit to the Giver of her gifts.

Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her brother, D.L. Hugon. She is survived by her husband of sixty years, Edwin Brown, daughter, Sally Keeney of Tyler, son Wayne Brown and his wife Laura of Tyler, grandchildren Wynn Brown of Fort Worth and Turner Brown of Dallas, her brother, Joe Frank Hugon Sr. of Magnolia, Texas, and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are nephews Joe Frank Hugon Jr., Billy Dolph Hugon, John Hugon, Roland Brown, Alan Brown, and Marshall Brown. Honorary pallbearers are John Yarbrough, Dan Beach, Frank Jakubik, and Wayne Ellison.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to her caregivers, Nancy Hooks, Kathy Hooks, Carolyn Cheney, and Debbie Carnes.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd. Tyler, Texas 75701 or the Griffin Cemetery Fund, Care of Jo Smith, 2540 County Road 4722 Troup, Texas 75789.
