Sally Gearhart-Roop, 87, of Mansfield, died Saturday, September 12, 2009, at Hospice House in Ashland.

Born March 13, 1922, in Olive Hill, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Walter "Poppy" and Jossie (Maybry) Nichols. Sally was a member of Trimble Road Church of God. She enjoyed quilting and made many lap quilts for area nursing homes. She enjoyed tending her beautiful flowers and canning the produce from her garden. Sally passed on her extensive knowledge of cooking and sewing to many younger generations. She inspired many people throughout her life with a strong faith in God. Sally was a wonderful mother and grandmother, devoting her life to her children and grandchildren.

Sally is survived by two sons, Freelyn Gearhart (Ann Mott) and Woodrow (Bev) Gearhart; four daughters, Loretta (Dave) Wilson, Aretta (George) Ayers, Donna (Gary) Ramsey, and Marcia Kegley; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; three sisters, Molly (Glen) Brown, Madge Holbrook and Opal Williams; a brother, Thirl (Mary Doris) Nichols; a sister-in-law, Jewel Nichols; special friend, Bertie Gearhart; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Emory Gearhart and Charles Roop; daughter, Shelva Jean; four sisters, Virgie Nichols, Firl Holbrook, Marie Sparks and Detta Davis; brother, Harlis Nichols; and granddaughter, Kelly Ann Wilson-Hockenberry.
