Mr. Nichols was born May 5, 1893, in Elliott County, a son of the late Shelby and Mary Skaggs Nichols. He was a retired employee of the General Refractories Co. in Olive Hill and was a member of the Church of God.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Jose Mabry Nichols; two sons, Thirl Nichols of Olive Hill and Harlis Nichols of Ball Knob, W. Va.; six daughters, Mrs. Delta Davis and Mrs. Opal Reynolds, bothof Olive Hill, Mrs. Marie Sparks of West Farmington, O., Mrs. Salley Gearhart of Shelby, O., Mrs. Molly Brown of Hoxie, Kan.; two brothers, Andy Nichols of Olive Hill and Jack Nichols of Tipp City, O.; 39 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Oney Funeral Home in Olive Hill by Bobby Day, minister. Burial will be in Tick Ridge Cemetery.
