Sarah Lovina Davis, daughter of Alexender and Melinda Davis, was born near Muncie, Indiana, August 4, 1851. She was the oldest of a family of six children. In 1863 she came with her parents to Pottawatomie county, Kansas, where the family settled on a homestead west of the present city of Havensville. She attended the country school nearest her home, and later what is now the State Agricultural college at Manhattan. After leaving college she engaged in the teaching profession for a year.
On June 14, 1871, he was united in marriage to Manasseh S. Knox, who also was a member of a pioneer family. A short time after their marriage they moved to what is known as the Knox farm north of Havensville. Here they lived until 1911 when they moved to Havensville. Since the death of her husband, October 7, 1929, a niece, Mrs. Oneita Ellis, and family, have lived in her home, giving her the most faithful care administered with special kindness. When a young girl she united with the Methodist church, of which she remained a loyal member, always interested in its welfare and attending its services when health permitted. She had been practically an invalid for many months. After a serious illness of three weeks, she passed away at the age of 79 years, 7 months and 8 days.
She leaves one brother, James O. Davis, of Nashville, Ore., one sister, Mrs. J. T. Poague, of Havensville; nieces and nephews and other relatives.
The pallbearers were: Wm. Shields, Cecil Holladay, John McKee, Geo. McDevitt, Frank Melton and N. P. Marcoux.-Westmoreland Recorder.
