The subject of this notice emigrated from New Jersey to Greene county over seventy years ago, when he was about 20 years of age, a single man, and located in the blacksmithing business, which was his trade, in a shop just beyond the brick residence of Mr. Jonas Ely, on the Hill farm, two miles west of this place. He soon after married Miss Margaret Hill, sister of our townsman Mr. Jesse Hill, by whom he raised a family of children. She dying he took for his second wife a Miss Simpson, sister of William Simpson, of Morris township, by whom he raised a large family of sons and daughters, Dr. Throckmorton, of Ninevah being his son, and Mrs. Dr. Guiher and Mrs. G. W. G. Waddell, this place, being his daughters. His second wife, however, died many years since, since which time Mr. Throckmorton remained single.

The deceased was a man of influence in the community where he lived all his life since he arrived at man's age. He was an upright Christian, being a consistent member of the M. E. Church the greater part of his long life up to the time of his death.
