Mrs. Guiher was a daughter of Morford and Nancy Simpson Throckmorton, deceased. She was born at the old Throckmorton homestead, in Franklin township, in 1832. She was among the first students to enter Waynesburg College and after receiving her education taught school. She was united in marriage, in 1858, to Dr. James Guiher and since that time she had resided in Waynesburg. Her husband died in 1869. In her early girlhood she became a member of the Hopewell Methodist Episcopal church and upon removing here, transferred her membership to the Waynesburg church. During the fifty years of her membership here, she was devoted to every department of the church and had filled many important positions in the church and Sunday School. She was a faithful attendant at all services and by her true christian grace and example directed many toward the Master. She was for many years teacher in the Sabbath School and was the first treasurer of the Women's Foreign Missionary Society, of this church, which position she faithfully filled until her death.
She is survived by five children: Miss Nannie and Frank T. Guiher, of Waynesburg; Dr. Horace B. Guiher, of Smithfield, Pa.; and John A. and William Guiher, of Winterset, Iowa. There are also two sisters and two brothers, Mrs. George (Caroline) Waddell and Eliphalet R. Throckmorton, of Waynesburg, Mrs. Alice Lazear, of Wind Ridge, and Dr. William S. Throckmorton, of Canonsburg, Pa.
