REMEMBRANCE

In the rising of the sun and in its going down,

WE remember you

In the beginning of the year and when it ends

WE remember you

When we are weary and in need of strength

WE remember you

When we are lost and sick at heart

WE remember you

When we have joys we yearn to share

WE remember you

So long as WE live, YOU too shall live

For YOU are a part of us.

Herbert H. Bray was a retired district mgr for an elevator installation and service co.

He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. Served in the USMC for 4 1/2 years, until discharged in 1950, was in a unit that was training the recruits coming in during the Korean War. He lost a lot of friends at the "Chosin Reservoir" battle.

He was an accomplished gardener and talented craftsman.

He is survived by his loving wife, Dona, of 55 1/2 years, father of four, grandfather to 7 and great grandfather to many. Survived also by a sister Geneva Bowen and several neices and nephews.

Uncle Herb was a very private man, never wanted a fuss overhim. I am glad the family didn't always honor his wishes..by giving him a great 75th birthday party which I had the priviledge of attending; however he made it very clear that he wanted his passing and funeral to be very private. I was sad, but glad to honor his request.

He and his wife had done alot of research on our genealogy which has increased my knowledge and desire to help others in thier future searches. They found that his family goes back to the American Revolution. His ancestor is listed in the DAR list of patriots.

Gardening was one of his loves, he had wonderful tropical flower and plant garden behind his home. He had planted one of his mother's house plants in his outdoor graden and it had grown with the leaves at least ten times the size of the original plant and had grown completely around a tree and thru the branches, quite a sight.

When he got his digital camera he enjoyed playing around and showing all the pictures he had kept like a little kid with a new toy...which it really was to him.

He was very proud of his service in the Marines and you know the old saying..once a Marine always a Marine, that was truly the way he felt.

Uncle Herb was a very, very special uncle to me, maybe because I was around him most, he seemed like an older brother to me.

Having a special connection with his younger brother, Jackie Bryon Bray, whom he remembered dying at a young age, he named his youngest son Byron. Please honor Herb by leaving memorials on his site too. Uncle Herb was really a tender man, not always visible except to the family who knew him best. Most Marines are like that..taught to be tough.

We didn't get to say goodbye to him the way we would have liked to, but know he knew we all loved him. We will see him again because he was a "born again Christian".

He was preceded in death by his parents; Flora Margaret Hyden Bray, grandparents Lulu ( Barber) Bray and Thomas Bray; sister Dovey "Lois" Bray Young ; brothers Jackie Byron Bray, Harlen Columbus Bray and Thomas Bray.

"Always a silent hurt, many a silent tear, but always a beautiful memory of one we loved so dear.

God gave us strength to bear it, and courage to take the blow, but what it meant to lose you

...no one will ever know (Author unknown)
