Dovey was born Oct. 25th 1920 to William Elmer and Flora Margaret (Hyden) Bray in Hail, KY. Her maternal grandparents were Millard and Nannette (Neely) Hyden; paternal grandparents, Tom and Lula (Barber) Bray; maternal great-grandparents, David and Martha Dykes; paternal great-grandparents Martin Van Buren Bray & Polly Stogsdill (Hargis) Bray; maternal great-great-grandparents, John Lafayette Neely & Sarah Jane (Nancy) (Van Hook) Neely; paternal great-grandparents;Isaiah & Phoebe (Brinson)Bray; maternal great-great-great-grandparents; William H. Neely & Nancy Jane Alsup/Alsop (note some of the records have differant spellings of names); maternal great-great-great-great-grandparents Isaac Neely, JR and Rutha (Brown) Neely maternal great-great-great-great-grandparents; John Alsip & Anna Stewart Alsip; brothers, Harlen C. Bray, Tom Bray, Herbert H. Bray, Jackie B. Bray, Harold Bray & sister Geneva (Bray) Woodall.

Before retiring to FL, she had worked as a waitress, housekeeper and mgr. of a Salvation Army store. Mother always loved having nice things, many of her most treasured items came from the Salvation Army Store and rummages, otherwise she would not have been able to afford the things she loved. She loved classical music, she loved preparing "fancy" meals for us and using napkin techniques that she had learned in her earlier days while working in high end resturants. She quit school early and was a self educated person and prided herself in knowing about different furniture, silverware, crystal, antiques all the finer things in life. Her last husband gave her more of an opportunity to enjoy the nicer things in life without the struggles she had in her earlier life. She loved finally having a Cadillac.

Dovey had a stroke in Orlando,FL January 1993. As soon as she was able her daugher, Sharon, brought her back to IN where she would be closer to family. She spent the rest of her life at Rawlins House in Pendleton, IN. She enjoyed the activites and especially the attention that she received. She loved watching her religious programs and was a devout Christain. She had a wonderful sense of humor. Before her confinement she loved going to garage sales, collecting antiques and jewelry....even while at Rawlins House she always took the jewelry or figurines, as her prizes for winning the Bingo games, my sister even got her a bingo shirt as you can see in one of the pictures. She didn't want her nicer things to be at the nursing home for fear of them getting broken so we kept her most treasured items for her and let her know that we had them displayed in our homes and told her of the many compliments that we received...she would chuckle, knowing people had no clue that they were purchased at a much lesser price than their true value. We still love being able to see a part of her everyday.

She was a "born again Christian" and a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Orlando, FL.

She said her best vacation was traveling with her youngest brother, Herb, via route 27 from FL. to IN.

She is survived by daughters Mary Margaret Blake (Dick) & Sharon Rae Pottorff, Grandchildren, Ritch Blake & Candy Jaqua & Chip Pottorff; Great-grandchildren, Beth Blake & Casey Jaqua; sister, Geneva Bowen & brother, Herb Bray. Several neices and nephews

Preceded in death by her parents; William Elmer Bray & Flora Margaret(Hyden)Bray; husband, Miles Young, brothers, Harold, Jackie, Tom & Harlen grandparents, Tom & Lula(Barber)Bray and son-in-law James Pottorff.

Her funeral was officiated by a nephew, Rev. Bill Ballenger, who also sang "I can Only Imagine" which was a song she so enjoyed on Mother's day 2004. Now she does not have to imagine.

We know she is in a much better place with no more pain. She is loved and missed. Mother loved angels, and now she is surrounded by them. Please visitFlora Margaret Hyden Bray

From my memories of my mother.

"Always a silent hurt, many a silent tear, but always a beautiful memory of one we loved so dear.

God gave us strength to bear it, and courage to take the blow, but what it meant to lose you

...no one will ever know". (Author unknown)
