MILBRIDGE - Zelma "Sonnie" Mitchell, 94, passed away peacefully Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, at a Bangor healthcare facility. She was born in Milbridge, Aug. 25, 1909, the daughter of Henry F. and Eunice M. Tracy Burke. She was a lifelong resident of Milbridge, until moving to Holden to live with her daughter in 2002. Zelma is survived by three children, Jean DiBiasio of Farmington, Conn., Paul Mitchell and his wife, Roxanne, of Hackettstown, N.J., and Judy Beals and her husband, Parker, of Holden; a daughter-in-law, Ruby Mitchell of Dedham; two special granddaughters, Paula Ballesteros of Bangor, and Joy Stevens of Brewer; and a special son-in-law and caregiver, Parker Beals of Holden; five sisters, Gertrude Whicher of Kittery, Marguerite Donnell of Franklin, Bessie Martin of Sullivan, Hilda Quinn of Ellsworth, and Hazel Fraccola of Milbridge; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Merton C. Mitchell, in 1944; a son, Wendell (Tom) Mitchell of Dedham, in 2001; two brothers, Henry Burke Jr., and Merrill (Jack) Burke; a sister, Beatrice Turner; a great-grandson, Cody Mitchell in 1999; and a great-granddaughter, Kathleen Dobbin. The family would like to offer a very special thank you to all the staff at Stillwater Health Care Facility. At Zelma's request, there will be no visiting hours or funeral services. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Evergreen Cemetery in Milbridge, with Owen Beal officiating. (Bangor Daily News Oct 4, 2004)
