Joseph Arthur,56, of 629 Bluegrass St., Flatwoods, died at 3:30 a.m. Sunday at his residence, following an extended illness.
Born May 31, 1914, at West Russell, he was son of the Late William and Fannie Hatfield Arthur. He was a member of Local 472 Construction Carpenters, a veteran of World War II, and had been a lifelong resident of Greenup County.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Hazel Cox Arthur; two sons, Robert E Arthur of Rt. 5, Ashland, and Paul Joseph Arthur of Danleyton; five daughters, Lucille Huffman and Ruth Newport, both of Dayton, Ohio, Shirley Proctor of Worthington and Betty Jo Sparks and Fannie Lou Jenkins, both of Flatwoods; two brothers, Andy E. Arthur of Flatwoods and Herman Arthur of Atlanta, Ga., a sister, Lucille Cochran of Wurtland and 19 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2: p.m. Tuesday at the Carman Funeral Home at Flatwoods by the Rev. Earl W. Mays. Burial will be in Bellefonte Memorial Gardens. The body is at Carman Funeral Home at Flatwoods where friends may call after 2 p.m. today.
