BULLET WOUND IS FATAL TO RAY ARTHUR OF RUSSELL
Funeral Services Will Be Held Sunday
RUSSELL - Mr. Roy Arthur, aged 35 years, passed away Thursday morning at 7:20 o'clock in the C&O hospital in Huntington, W. Va., from a bullet wound, self inflicted. he submitted to a mastoid operation, three weeks ago and was recovering nicely, but worried at times over his health, inability to work for a long period preceding his operation and the time it would take to recuperate.
Dr. F.X. Schuller, county coroner, said the death was an unmistakable case of suidide and that an inquest was not necessary.
Arthur, a patient in the hospital for the past four weeks, was a fireman for the Chesapeak & Ohio railroad.
Bought Gun To Hospital
Hospital attendants said an investifation indicated that the pistol was the property of the patient and it "had been brought to the hospital by the man among other personal effects when he was admitted for treatment."
At the hospital it was announced Arthur had been a patient there at various times for more than a year. When last admitted he was suffering from a mastoid infection, attendants said.
Alone When Shot
Dr.Schuller said the man's room was shared by J.E. Compton, of Shelbiana, Ky., who related that the man shot himself while Compton was out of the room washing preparatory to eating breakfast. The coroner said Compton related that Arthur suggested it was time to wash and "clean up" Compton said he was out of the room for five minutes and that when her returned he Found Arthur on the floor dying. Physicians at the hospital said the man lived about five minutes after shooting himself.
Arthur left a note instructing relatives how to settle his estate, but gave no reason for his action.
He was born, April 19.1903 at Marmet, W. Va. He had resided with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Arthur for the greater part of his life at Flatwoods and Wheeler Hill. He attended Russell high school, where he was one of the most popular students. he leaves a host of friends who are deeply grieved at his passing.
He is survived by his grief stricken parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.M. Arthur of Wheeler, one sister, Lucille, and three brothers Andrew, Herman and Joe.
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at two O'clock in the Penecostal church of Flatwoods, with Rev. Cyrus assisted by Mr. J.R. Gilpin officiating. Interment will be made in Woodland Cemetery under direction of the Carman Funeral Home.

Shooting himself in the forehead with a .32 calibre revolver, Roy Arthur, well-known C&O firemand and resident of Flatwoods ended his own life at the C&O Hospital in Huntinton yesterday morning. The coroner there gave a verdict of suicide. Ill health is believed to have been his motive, as he had been a patient at the hospital for the past month. Thirty-four years of age, he was the son of W.M. Arthur, of Flatwoods, who is a conductor on the Huntington Division of the C&O. In addition to his father he is survived by several brothers and sisters. Funeral arrangements had not been completed up to press time last night.

Burial will be made in Woodland cemetery at Ironton and will be under the direction of Herbert Greene of the Carman Funeral Home.
