OBITUARY
THE CHARITON LEADER
Chariton, Iowa
Thursday, March 2, 1916
MRS. ELIZA MOORE
The numerous friends of the family throughout the city and county were greatly shocked and grieved to learn of the sudden death of Mrs. Eliza Moore, which occurred at her home on Ashland avenue on Friday night, February 25th, 1916, at 11 o'clock.
Although she had been in ill health for some time she was able to be about the house and attend to her duties. About 9 o'clock Friday evening she was stricken with heart failure and passed away two hours later, before her children could reach her bedside.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Herbert J. Bryce, of the Baptist church, were held at the home on Monday forenoon at 11 o'clock, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Chariton cemetery, her five sons and grandson acting as pall bearers. The floral tributes were profuse and beautiful, expressive of love and sympathy.
Eliza Threlkeld was born in Johnson county, Indiana, on September 4, 1838, and at the time of her demise was 77 years, 5 months and 21 days old.
With her family she had resided in this county for many years, and was esteemed by all who knew her for her many admirable qualities. She was quiet and unobtrusive in nature, but was ever ready to lend assistance to others, and her sudden passing away will be deplored by a host of friends, who will extend heartfelt sympathy to the sorrowing children and other relatives who survive.
Deceased united with the Baptist church in 1865 and was ever faithful to her God, and found comfort in the reading of her Bible, which was a part of her daily life.
She was the mother of eight children, one dying in infancy. The remaining seven were all present at the last sad rites. They are Mrs. Lora Whitten, Mrs. Myron Prather, Wesley, Leslie and Roy Moore, all of Chariton; Clarence, of Woodburn, and Harry, of Humeston. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and by one sister, Mrs. Miranda Wayland, of this place.
