WILLIAM H. MOORE
Old friends and neighbors will learn with regret of the death of William H. Moore, who passed away November 22, 1928, at the Yocom hospital after a week of illness. During that time he underwent an operation to prolong his life, but owing to his advanced age all that could be done was to no avail, and death came as a release at the age of 88 years, 2 months and 11 days.
He was the eldest son of Hiram and Dianna Moore, who were for many years well known residents of Chariton. He was born in Illinois on Sept. 6, 1840. After leaving Illinois they resided in Fairfield, Iowa, later moving to Lucas county.
He was married here to Eliza Threlkeld and they established the family home at the present Moore farm, east of Chariton. Here five sons and two daughters were born and grew to young men and women. At this time they moved to Chariton where the family circle was broken when the mother passed away.
Later he was married to Mrs. Ellen Clark and after a few brief years death claimed her and he was alone again. He was married to Mrs. Etta Holmes, who with the help of his children cared for him in his last few days of illness.
He is survived by his wife, five sons and two daughters, Leslie, Wesley and Mrs. Elda Prather, of Chariton; Clarence and Harry, of Osceola; Mrs. Elma Whitten, of Des Moines, and Roy, of Omaha; also fourteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and one brother, Noah, of Chariton.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Geo. J. Cornford, were held at the United Brethren church in Chariton on Sunday forenoon at eleven o'clock, followed by interment in the Chariton cemetery.
