Funeral services for Mrs. Mayme Sullivan, 71, florist in Shelbyville for more than 30 years, will be held at 9 o’clock this morning at the Church of the Annunciation, Father James Lehmann officiating. She succumbed at 8 p.m. Monday [March 13, 1939]. The deceased was a native of Louisville, daughter of the late Margaret Howe Dubourg and M.L. Dubourg. Her parents removed to Shelby County about 50 years ago, purchasing a farm and later establishing a greenhouse to engage in the florist trade. She married Con Sullivan, former city engineer and a contractor, who died 29 years ago. Surviving are six daughters, Mrs. Charles Shawhan, Mrs. John Roberts and Miss Augusta Sullivan, of Shelbyville, Mrs. Robert LaBelle, Cincinnati, OH, Miss Mary Florence Sullivan, Louisville, and Mrs. James Hill, Lawrenceburg, and one sister, Mrs. Will S. SHELBY SENTINEL OBITUARY – 03/17/1939
Mrs. Mayme Dubourg Sullivan, widow of Con J. Sullivan, former City Engineer and contractor, died at the St. Joseph’s Infirmary, Louisville, at 8 o’clock Monday [March 13, 1939] night in her 72nd year. She underwent a serious surgical operation three weeks ago, but seemed to be recovering when a fatal relapse came and made her death the greater shock to her family and friends. Mrs. Sullivan’s funeral services were conducted by her pastor, the Rev. Father James Lehmann, at the Church of the Annunciation at 9 o’clock yesterday morning with interment in Grove Hill Cemetery. The pallbearers were Messrs. W.P. Brown, Mike Brown, Paul Crane, John M. Casey, John Meehan Jr., and Judge O.T. Kaltenbacher. Mrs. Sullivan was born in Louisville, the daughter of Malguire L. & Margaret Howe Dubourg. Her father was born in France and her mother in Germany. The family early in Mrs. Sullivan’s childhood came to Shelbyville to reside, and during their long life here, she and they won and kept many warm friends. Mr. Sullivan died early in their married life and she inherited a florist business which she conducted successfully for many years while rearing and educating a large family of highly esteemed daughters, the only son dying in childhood. Her cheery word and smile, and little deeds of kindness and charity through the years, were as varied and beautiful as the flowers she loved so well. She is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Charles R. Shawhan, Mrs. John Roberts, and Miss Gus Sullivan, Shelbyville; Mrs. Robert LaBelle, Cincinnati, OH; Miss Mary Florence Sullivan, Louisville, and Mrs. James S. Hill, Lawrenceburg; two granddaughters, Mary Jean Hill, Lawrenceburg, and Connie LaBelle, Cincinnati, OH, and one sister, Mrs. Will S. Kaltenbacher, Louisville.
